The Opportunity
Investment Risk and Analytical Services (IRAS) provides Investment Performance and Risk Measurement reporting and analysis, Compliance Guideline Monitoring, and Private Markets reporting and analysis across the Corporate ERISA, Public Funds, Foundations and Endowments, Wealth Management, Global Family Office and Sovereign Wealth Funds client segments. IRAS utilizes a suite of proprietary reporting applications to deliver a broad range of investment analysis from rates of return and asset allocation reporting to benchmark comparisons and attribution analysis. This analysis supports the evaluation, measurement and decision making process of key constituents. IRAS works in tandem with multiple operational and client service focused groups across Northern Trust.
As an IRAS Wealth Performance Associate, you will perform operations, technical, and administrative work in support of the investment performance reporting needs from Northern Trust’s portfolio managers and investment associates located across the country. You will apply your technical knowledge of financial markets and financial concepts, or equivalent experience, and perform tasks and duties according to established procedures. Empowered by your own perspective and critical thinking, you will be able to identify outside the box solutions to problems, as well as identifying key issues and patterns from partial/conflicting data. Through this role, you will complete job related tasks with a limited degree of supervision and act as an informal resource for colleagues with less experience or knowledge.
The Team
As an IRAS Wealth Associate, you will work on a team of 4 individuals in an inclusive, collaborative, and in office/work from home hybrid environment. Through strong communication, analysis, and client servicing, the team works to identify and solve complex problems that are atypical or that occur infrequently. The Tempe team is the only IRAS Wealth Performance team at Northern Trust, and services the wealth management investment practice across the country. As an associate in IRAS, you will utilize both client servicing and analytic skills, making this a unique opportunity for those seeking exposure in both sectors. The Impact
- Serve as the subject matter expert on performance methodology using Northern Trust proprietary applications
- Provide ongoing training on IRAS applications to peers, portfolio managers, and investment associates
- Impact the quality, timeliness, and effectiveness of the team using discretion to improve processes or modify work practices to achieve best results
- Assist and collaborate with team members on various projects, auditing of client data, resolving client inquiries, and other tasks that support client relationships
- Work in tangent with internal operations and client servicing partners to ensure accuracy and timeliness of all the information provided to clients
The Minimum Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree; preferably in business, finance, technology or related field
- Internship experience in a related field
- Excellent time management, working under pressure, and organizational acumen
- Strong organizational, written, and verbal client servicing ability
- Energetic, highly communicative, independent, self-starter
- Experience working in a team-oriented environment teams and taking leadership roles
The Ideal Qualifications
- Experience taking a leadership role within a team
- Interest in, or progress towards CFA, CIPM, CAIA or other investments-related professional designation
- Use of Microsoft Office tools, advanced Excel skills
- Exposure to Northern Trust or third party financial software
- Knowledge of various financial concepts, rate of return calculations, and familiarity with investment vehicles and benchmarks across multiple asset classes
