Northern Star (Pogo) LLC has a challenging and rewarding opportunity for a Plant Metallurgist at our world-class Pogo operation in Alaska on a 15 day on, 13 day off schedule.

What is the role?
The Plant Metallurgist reports to the Metallurgical Superintendent and the primary role is to provide technical advice, information, and solutions to improve the fundamentals of the processing plant while also maintaining the metallurgical accounting system to generate required metallurgical reports.
Duties include:
- Provide metallurgical and processing operations advice.
- Take ownership of projects and activities and lead efforts to implement change. Do not wait for specific direction, make informed decisions, and move forward.
- Optimising processing plant comprises of grinding circuit, flotation circuit, gravity circuit (Knelson and Acacia), CIL circuit and elution.
- Conduct plant investigations and improvement projects to improve recovery, increase throughput and reduce cost as required.
- Optimise, maintain, and upgrade the plant control systems as required.
- Seek improvement opportunities with the key reagent and consumable suppliers.
- Assist others on the metallurgical team to design and complete metallurgical test work.

The specifics:
- Degree majoring in Metallurgical Engineering / Extractive Metallurgy / Chemical Engineering from a recognised tertiary institution or other engineering degree and relevant experience.
- Minimum 1 year relevant experience in the metallurgical processing plant in the gold or base metal industry.
- Computer literacy – Microsoft Office Suite including Excel competence.
- Excellent communication skills. Good report writing skills.
- Relevant experience and exposure to comminution and flotation circuit will be highly regarded.
- Proven track record of process improvement and/or cost savings project implementation will be highly regarded.
- Demonstrated ability to maintain or exceed best industry practice in all metallurgical tasks.
- Prior use of Pronto, INX
- Exposure to Project Management.
- Budget and financial knowledge and experience.
- Familiar with process control systems.
- Flexibility to adapt to improved procedures and practices.
- Awareness of the Mine Safety and Health Administration (MSHA) Act & Regulations.
The Details:
Working a 15 days on, 13 days off rotating schedule of days and nights, up to 12 hours a day or more at a remote campsite. Extreme conditions, including but not limited to extreme and changing weather conditions, dust, mud, varying levels of noise, varying degrees of light and dark, in and around artificial light and in a confined work area.
Employees are required to stay on site at the company provided camp during the work rotation. Camp facilities provide dining service, games room, exercise & weight room, sauna, and accommodation rooms. Dormitory rooms have a land line phone, great Wi-Fi & cable TV. Cell service is available through Wi-Fi. The Company provides a bus service to and from Fairbanks, Delta Junction and Tok, Alaska.
