As a Behavior Support Specialist, you will be working in classrooms assisting education staff with implementing behavior plans and providing direct support for children with behavior issues.

Candidates for the Behavior Support Specialist position must have at least an Associate's degree in Child Development, Psychology, or a related human services field. Candidates must also be Registered Behavior Technicians (RBT) or be willing to obtain RBT certification. Successful candidates should have experience working with individuals with challenging behaviors in a classroom setting and a strong understanding of behavioral health principles and techniques.

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Associate degree in Child Development, Psychology, Social Work Education, or similar human services field. Bachelor's degree preferred.
  • Registered Behavior Technician (RBT) or willingness to obtain RBT certification
  • Driver's license and reliable vehicle
  • Experience working with individuals with challenging behaviors in a classroom setting; experience working with individuals with autism, trauma, or other developmental disabilities preferred
  • Strong understanding of behavior health principles and techniques; knowledge of special education laws and regulations preferred
  • Ability to lift up to 50 pounds
  • Standing, bending, kneeling, stooping, crouching, sitting on the floor, and reaching on a daily basis

JOB DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Provides direct in-class services to children by implementing behavior plans and procedures in the classroom
  • Works with the assigned teacher to assist children in educational activities and modifies classroom environment and/or assignments to meet children's needs
  • Assists with designing, implementing, monitoring, and adjusting behavior and educational plans for individual children.
  • Assists children with skill acquisition, including independent life skills (i.e., hygiene, self-management, and food preparation/feeding).
  • Collects data and maintains accurate records and documentation of children's progress, occurrences of problem behaviors, and general observations.
  • Completes screenings for any children needing further assessments.
  • Collaborates with mental health consultants and other contracted agencies to serve referred children.
  • Shares and interprets information about children to their families and staff through behavior check-ins.
  • Completes written reports as requested; participates in meetings as required.

Job Type: Full-time

Pay: $16.25 per hour
