Job Summary
The Instructor for Unhoused Adult Learners Program advances NNLC’s mission by delivering literacy and educational support to adults experiencing homelessness or housing instability. This instructor will teach adults ages 16 and older living at the CARES Campus or in transitional housing, providing patient, compassionate, trauma-informed instruction that supports progress toward literacy improvement, digital literacy, and High School Equivalency (HSE) preparation.
Instructional Delivery & Student Engagement
- Deliver student-centered instruction utilizing the Aztec learning System in reading, writing, math, and digital literacy.
- Support learners in navigating online HSE preparation platforms such as Aztec Learning.
- Apply trauma-informed teaching strategies that prioritize emotional safety and predictability.
- Maintain a consistent classroom routine to promote structure, stability, and trust.
Technology & Digital Access Support
- Assist students with logging into and using online learning platforms.
- Troubleshoot basic technology issues and communicate with NNLC support.
Student Records & Assessment
- Work with Database Manager to Schedule and support CASAS testing.
- Monitor Measurable Skills Gains (MSG), HSE readiness, and progress in LACES.
- Record attendance accurately and coordinate with Student Services and CARES Campus Case Managers.
Collaboration & Outreach
- Communicate regularly with partner site staff.
- Participate in outreach and orientation activities.
- Meet regularly with NNLC leadership regarding student progress.
Professional Development
- Attend PLC meetings and staff trainings.
- Maintain required documentation and training records.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in Education, Social Services, or related field preferred.
- Experience teaching or supporting vulnerable adult learners.
- Understanding of trauma-informed instruction.
- Familiarity with CASAS and digital learning platforms such as Aztec Learning.
- Strong interpersonal skills and ability to build trust with diverse learners. Professional Expectations

Pay: $22.00 per hour
