What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Coder position at Northern Nevada HOPES?
Looking for a Certified Medical Coder to join our mission and growing team!
The Coder is responsible for reviewing all provider submitted encounters for procedure and diagnosis accuracy and completeness. The Coder provides feedback and support to providers. Coder assists billers with denied claims.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
- Maintain a good knowledge and understanding of Northern Nevada HOPES’ mission, vision, and philosophy and support these tenets at all times while conducting agency business.
- Contribute to a healthy work environment by demonstrating the following: active participation in meetings and team building activities; direct and timely communication about needs and problems at all times; an open and receptive attitude; proactive problem solving; constructive feedback and communication.
- Maximize learning opportunities by remaining receptive to constructive feedback and utilizing support available from your supervisor.
- Import encounters daily. Track incomplete documentation and follow up with providers to ensure timely billing.
- Review provider’s documentation to ensure all documented services billed to the highest level.
- Review and respond to coding inquiries submitted by providers.
- Work directly with providers to resolve coding issues.
- Keep providers updated with CPT and ICD-10 changes.
- Maintain error log of documentation changes for provider education.
- Assist billers with claim issues. Provide necessary education where appropriate.
- Review claims to ensure that assigned codes meet insurance regulations.
- Daily billing of reviewed claims to insurance carriers.
- Meet with all new providers within 6 weeks of onboarding.
- Create provider improvement plans where needed with the assistance of the supervisor.
- Other duties as assigned.
