What are the responsibilities and job description for the Manufacturing Technician position at Northern Natural Gas Company?
This position provides support to the machining services group of Northern Natural Gas technical services department through the production, job setup, testing, repair and delivery of parts and equipment to other company locations and provides technical support to the Clifton machine and welding shop. This position is also responsible for performing entry level to complex troubleshooting and repair techniques on manufacturing and testing equipment.
Calibrate and operate basic machining equipment as well as perform quality assurance checks and tests on production materials and assemblies. (15-20%) Assist machinists and welders in the assembly of mechanical and piping components in both the machining and fabrication areas and support team members with setups and product change over. (15-20%) Ensure production, material and testing records are kept up-to-date and in accordance with regulatory requirements and company procedures. (15-20%) Troubleshoot, maintain and repair production assembly equipment. (10-15%) Provide parts hauling up and down the Northern Natural Gas system, to include maintaining and operating a Department of Transportation (DOT) vehicle and twenty-five foot trailer, the maintenance of DOT logbooks and all other documentation, licensing and inspections required under the DOT pertaining to the operations of this equipment. (10-15%) Operate and maintain material handling equipment such as fork lift trucks, overhead hoists and pallet movers. Safely move large sections of steel weighing as much as 25,000 pounds to and from machines as required. (10-15%) Operate and maintain hydraulic torque wrenches and impact wrenches in the setup and tear down of welded assemblies being hydrostatically tested. (10-15%) Operate and maintain the Hyd-Mech Horizontal band saw to perform sawing operations as required. (10-15%) Provide general shop preventative maintenance to machines in the machine shop to include general cleanup and maintaining the lubrication on the machines ranging from a $3,000 American lathe to a $500,000 Mac Turn five axis milling and turning computer numerically controlled machine. (5-10%) Setup and operate cutting torches, propane torches and pipe beveling machines. (0-5%) Setup and operate tank turning rolls. Associates Degree in manufacturing technology or related technical field or equivalent work experience. (Typically three years of related, progressive work experience would be needed for candidates applying for this position who do not possess an associate's degree.) Two or more years related experience in an industrial/manufacturing environment. Must be able to interpret machine and schematic drawings; read blueprints; perform preventative and predictive maintenance; and understand pneumatic and hydraulic systems. Must possess a valid class A commercial drivers license and have experience in pulling trailers and driving large commercial vehicles. Must possess a mechanical background with an understanding of general machine tools and machine tool components. Effective oral and written communication skills. Effective analytical and problem-solving skills. Ability to prioritize and handle multiple tasks and projects concurrently. Ability to work in a team environment. Must be able to maneuver in confined spaces and lift up to 50 lbs. Must be able to work overtime when required and subject to call-outs.
