About the role
The Financial Counselor ensures that all NMHC inpatient/outpatient surgery patients are reviewed and contacted regarding payment of their hospital account. The Counselor communicates with patients, insurance companies and physician offices regarding coverage and authorization. They assist patients and/or their families in various programs/resources to assist with medical financial needs. The Counselor screens patients for hospital charity program and/or financial assistance; collects deductibles, co-pays and co-insurance as well as payments; and ensures compliance with NMHC policies, procedures and government mandates.
Qualifications
- High school diploma and some college
- Minimum of 1 yr experience in credit, collection, insurance and clerical experience preferred
- Experience with Windows application systems and Microsoft Office suite; knowledge of medical insurances (Medicare, Medicaid, HMO's, PPO's, commercial), EMTALA regulations, hospital billings and collection process
- Excellent writing skills with knowledge of medical terminology
- Professional demeanor and excellent public relations skills.
- This position is subject to a credit check in accordance with the Fair Credit Reporting Act.
Salary is commensurate with up to 10 years experience.
