TITLE OF POSITION: Accounting Instructor
BARGAINING UNIT/SALARY RANGE: MEA Faculty
RESPONSIBILITIES: Northern Maine Community College is seeking a full-time Accounting Instructor who is passionate about teaching and committed to student success. The ideal candidate will create an engaging and inclusive learning environment that supports the development of strong technical, analytical, and problem-solving skills; while fostering a comprehensive understanding of accounting principles and practices. Responsibilities include teaching primarily accounting courses, including Principles of Accounting, Intermediate Accounting, Payroll Accounting, and Managerial Accounting Instruction delivered both on campus in Presque Isle and online. Opportunities to teach additional business courses as needed. The successful candidate will contribute to maintaining high-quality academic programs by ensuring curriculum remains current, relevant, and aligned with industry standards and best practices. Additional faculty responsibilities include student advising, and curriculum development. The instructor will also engage in committee work and contribute to ongoing program improvement efforts to support student learning outcomes and workforce readiness.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Master's degree in accounting or related field such as MBA. Must have at least 18 Accounting credits beyond Principles of Accounting I & II. Successful post-secondary teaching experience is a plus.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES: Strong communication and interpersonal skills are essential for this position. The successful candidate must demonstrate a broad understanding of accounting principles and practices, along with the ability to effectively teach and engage students with diverse academic and professional backgrounds. A thorough knowledge of financial and managerial accounting, as well as familiarity with current industry standards, technologies, and best practices, is required. The candidate should also have experience or interest in developing and delivering distance or hybrid learning, with the ability to incorporate instructional technology into the classroom. Strong organizational skills, attention to detail, and the ability to support student success through advising and mentorship are important.
