Position Overview:

The Technician III performs maintenance, troubleshooting, and repair of diesel engines, generators, and related mechanical and electrical systems in both shop and field-service environments.

This is a developing-level technician position responsible for performing preventive maintenance, routine repairs, inspections, and basic diagnostic work while building technical proficiency in more complex diesel engine and electrical systems. The Technician III performs assigned work under general supervision and may assist more experienced technicians with advanced diagnostics, major repairs, and engine overhauls.

This position requires both shop and field-service work and may require travel to customer sites and remote locations.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

• Perform preventive maintenance, inspections, and routine repairs on diesel engines, generators, and related equipment.
• Inspect, lubricate, and service diesel engines and supporting fuel, air, cooling, and electrical systems.
• Change fluids, filters, belts, hoses, and other service components as required.
• Perform basic troubleshooting and diagnostic testing of mechanical and electrical systems.
• Assist with diagnosing equipment malfunctions by inspecting equipment, reviewing work orders, and using applicable diagnostic tools.
• Perform general engine and component repairs within demonstrated skill and training levels.
• Assist more experienced technicians with complex diagnostics, major component repairs, engine overhauls, and rebuilds as assigned.
• Assist with troubleshooting Tier 4 diesel engines, power take-off (PTO) systems, electrical systems, instruments, gauges, and related components.
• Read and follow service manuals, schematics, technical instructions, work orders, and manufacturer procedures.
• Inspect safety devices, guards, and related components and report or correct deficiencies within assigned responsibilities.
• Tag and process warranty parts in accordance with Company procedures.
• Stay current with applicable technical bulletins and participate in required technical and safety training.
• Accurately document labor time, work performed, parts used, and other required information in Company systems.
• Maintain tools, equipment, and assigned work areas in a clean, safe, and organized condition.
• Communicate professionally with customers and coworkers and provide quality customer service.
• Travel to customer locations and remote service sites as required. Travel arrangements will be coordinated in accordance with Company procedures.
• Operate Company vehicles as required to perform assigned job duties.
• Maintain regular and reliable attendance.
• Perform other duties as assigned.

Qualifications & Skills:

• Basic to intermediate knowledge of diesel engine maintenance and repair.
• Mechanical aptitude and demonstrated ability to safely use hand tools, power tools, and applicable service equipment.
• Basic troubleshooting and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to read and understand service manuals, work orders, technical instructions, and basic mechanical and electrical schematics.
• Basic knowledge of diesel engine systems and components.
• Basic knowledge of electrical systems; familiarity with AC and DC electrical systems preferred.
• Ability to use diagnostic equipment and tools appropriate to the employee's level of training and experience.
• Ability to safely operate service vehicles and equipment.
• Ability to follow established procedures and work effectively under the direction of more experienced technicians and supervisors.
• Ability to work independently on assigned tasks within demonstrated skill and training levels.
• Strong attention to safety, quality, and detail.
• Good organizational and communication skills.
• Basic welding or metal fabrication skills preferred.
• Ability and willingness to perform field-service work and travel to remote locations as required.
• Must possess and maintain a valid driver's license and meet Company driving requirements, as driving to customer and field-service locations is an essential function of this position.

 Education & Experience:

• High school diploma or GED required.
• Technical or vocational training in diesel technology, automotive technology, power generation, or a related field preferred.
• One to two years of relevant experience in diesel engine maintenance, mechanical repair, power generation, or a related field preferred. Relevant technical education or training may be considered in combination with practical experience.
• Previous experience performing preventive maintenance and basic diesel engine repairs preferred.
• Familiarity with computer systems, email, maintenance software, and electronic diagnostic tools preferred.
• Manufacturer-specific training and certifications are a plus and may be required as the employee progresses in the position.

 Work Environment:

While performing the duties of this position, the employee may work in shop and field-service environments and may be exposed to moving mechanical parts, engines, machinery, fumes, airborne particles, vibration, oils, fuels, and other conditions commonly associated with diesel-service operations.

Field assignments may involve work outdoors and at customer or remote locations in varying weather and temperature conditions.

Noise levels may be loud. Appropriate personal protective equipment must be worn as required by Company policy, applicable regulations, and job-site requirements.

Frequently lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move tools, parts, and equipment weighing up to 70 pounds, consistent with safe work practices and available lifting assistance.

Communicate effectively with customers, coworkers, and supervisors and exchange accurate information.

Possess the visual ability necessary to inspect equipment and components, read gauges and technical information, identify defects, and safely perform mechanical and electrical work at varying distances.

Safely perform work in shop, field, and remote-service environments.

Tool Requirements:

• Employee must maintain a complete set of hand tools appropriate for the duties and skill level of the position and in accordance with Company requirements.
• Personally supplied tools must be maintained in safe and serviceable condition.
