Summary:

The Mammography Technologist performs radiographic examinations of breast anatomy as requested by the clinician. The Mammography Technologist is also required to perform other imaging examinations for which they are qualified such as radiologic examinations, CT scans, fluoroscopy, pain management, bone density, etc. The technologist is expected to perform a variety of procedures with the knowledge and ability to apply a prescribed amount of x-radiation for the purpose of obtaining diagnostic quality radiographs for interpretation by the radiologist.

Responsibilities:

1. Performs radiographic and other Imaging procedures in accordance with departmental protocols and procedures within standard time frames. 2. Maintains equipment in good operating condition and operates equipment according to department and manufacturer’s recommendations. 3. Prepares and orients patients for the procedures. 4. Is cooperative and helpful in a clear and courteous manner to co-workers, staff, patients, and visitors. 5. Maintains and exhibits a current knowledge of radiologic technology and participates in continuing education. 6. Acts as a patient advocate in all aspects of Imaging Services. 7. Participates in equipment purchases. 8. Maintains records and files in reference to mammography.

Other Information:

Licensed as Radiologic Technologist Required. Current registration by the American Registry of Radiologic Technologists in Mammography is not initially required, but must be obtained within 18 months of start date.
