Summary:
Is responsible for organizing, directing and maintaining communications at the ED nurse's station, maintaining complete and accurate medical records and assisting the Manager in the effective management and operation of the Emergency Department. Assists with bed side patient registration, re-stocking of rooms and supplies, performing EKGs, and other tasks as delegated.
Responsibilities:
1. Greet patients that present for services
2. Properly identify each patient in Cerner Millennium
3. Produce an accurate patient record of each encounter for Patient Accounts and Medical Records, working collaborative with the ED central registration staff and leadership.
4. Telephone communication: serves as the conduit for all telephone communication in and out of the department, following service excellence telephone etiquette.
5. Scheduling of patient activities post ED visit, i.e.: procedures, exams and consults.
6. Review all ED charts post visit to ensure all orders placed in computer initialed off, all nursing orders signed off reflecting completion, all orders signed by provider, all pages present, all pages labeled, ensure all ordered EKG's are complete and present on chart, that there is one order per EKG, that all EKG's on chart have a corresponding order, ensure names electronically entered into the EKG machine (that print on top left corner) match correct pt name spelling (if incorrect notify manager), review transfer form for completion and review with charge if incomplete.
7. Assist Charge Nurse with all bed requests for hospitalization, communicates and documents all steps of the process promptly, ensuring that the primary nurse and admitting/supervisor have all necessary information to place pt. Once confirmation (orders to hospitalize pt) has been received ensures a room assignment is received from admitting/supervisor and communicated. Document room assignment on page 1 of hospitalization orders, photocopy and give to central registrar for processing. Ensure Bed Request form stays with ED record.
8. Maintain downtime box and ensure that all forms are up to date, accurate and available.
9. Maintain department forms and packets, order paperwork, check on weekends and leave list of forms that need to be ordered in Administrative Assistant's mailbox.
10. Work orders: fill out and maintain file of open work orders, reviewing weekly for outstanding orders.
11. Filing and maintaining files of department paperwork.
12. Restocking of rooms and ordering supplies through Administrative Assistant.
13. Maintains borrowed equipment log and monitors returns.
14. Call diets to kitchen and communicate arrival of trays to ensure prompt delivery to pts.
15. Perform discharge phone calls, Co-ordinates telephone calls, takes messages, and courteously greets visitors and ancillary departments.
16. Restocking of rooms and ordering supplies through Administrative Assistant.
17. Preparation of culture reports for review by physician and nurse.
18. Transports specimens to lab.
19. Assists with patient care as delegated by the ED provider.
