Summary :

Responsible for planning, developing, and administering a comprehensive, best-practice based development program that advances the mission of both Blue Hill and Maine Coast Hospitals, and Northern Light Health.

Responsibilities :

1. Develop, implement, evaluate and refine a comprehensive fundraising plan for both hospitals including annual, special events, major and lead gifts, capital campaigns, and planned giving 2. Oversee comprehensive, results-oriented donor relations program that demonstrates to donors the difference they make at both hospitals. 3. Provide leadership and strategies for ongoing and emerging capital campaigns and major gift initiatives that benefit Blue Hill and Maine Coast Hospitals, and overarching Northern Light Health system priorities. 4. Achieve realistic and quantifiable goals based on mutually agreed upon fundraising targets that will be the primary performance standards used to measure fundraising success. 5. Manage a portfolio of approximately 125 major and principal gift donors and prospects, utilizing relationship and moves management strategies. 6. Collaboratively set goals for the number of substantive donor visits; solicitations/proposals to be submitted; and funds to be raised each year. 7. Work closely with Northern Light Health member presidents to keep informed and engaged with donors, fundraising activities, and collaborate on funding priorities that would appeal to donors for philanthropic support. 8. Promote a culture of philanthropy across member organizations; build philanthropic awareness through physicians, nurses, clinical and support staff, one-on-one medical staff meetings, and maintaining a presence in the clinical units. 9. Oversee the development of case materials and proposal communications materials needed for major gift and capital campaign fundraising. 10. Work closely with Director of Corporate and Foundation Relations to coordinate corporate and grant funding opportunities. 11. Work closely with Community Relations to ensure a coordinated message across the member organizations, and in the creation of donor-focused collateral materials, annual appeals, campaigns, and special event print needs. 12. Work closely with Director of Planned Giving and staff to develop strategies to establish a planned giving program including a planned giving society. 13. Supervise and mentor one to two philanthropy staff.

Documented outcomes resulting from personal, one-on-one solicitations for contributions. 3. Ability to articulate the vision of Northern Light Health to shape a philanthropic program. 4. Ability to partner with executive and clinical leadership to create gift strategies and close major gifts. 5. Ability to collaboratively with leadership across the organization to ensure alignment and creative approaches to support key funding priorities, initiatives and opportunities 6. Ability to work independently within defined goals and standards. 7. A strong work ethic coupled with an enthusiastic and passionate approach to one’s work 8. Strong verbal and written skills, well organized, self-directed with ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities. 9. The ability to work effectively with physicians and other medical executives is critical. 10. The ability to lead and work effectively with volunteers. 11. Achievement oriented, a good team player, and a successful team builder. 12. Ability to work in a dynamic. Fast-paced environment and good at developing relationships both internally and externally with the various constituencies. 13. Proficient with computerized information management in the fundraising setting, including Blackbaud’s Raiser’s Edge and NXT. 14. Enjoy working with people and advancing the mission of healthcare fundraising. 15. Able to work effectively with people and inspire others to perform at a high level of efficiency and productivity. 16. Flexible work schedule to include weekends, evenings and select holidays, as necessary. 17. Knowledgeable in planned giving and ability to discuss with donors. 18. Valid driver’s license. 19. A working knowledge of marketing and public relations is a plus.

• Possess a current driver’s license and must have reliable vehicle for travel throughout the State of Maine. • Flexibility working occasional weekends, evenings, or holidays.

Education

  • Required Bachelor's Degree. Bachelor’s degree required; preferred advanced degree in communications, organization management, health or business.
