About this Role:
The Fuel Strategy Manager is responsible for optimizing all fuel-related spend across the Northern Jet fleet by managing FBO relationships, negotiating competitive pricing, auditing fuel transactions, and driving data-informed purchasing behavior across operations.
This role sits at the intersection of operations, finance, and vendor management and is directly accountable for reducing fuel cost per gallon while ensuring operational efficiency and service quality.
Location: Orlando, FL.
Schedule: Monday-Friday 7:00am-4:30pm.
Key Responsibilities
- Fuel Spend Oversight & Optimization
- Monitor and analyze fuel spend across the organization
- Identify pricing trends, anomalies, and cost-saving opportunities
- Develop and maintain preferred FBO network and pricing benchmarks
- Drive measurable reduction in average $/gallon and total fuel expense
FBO & Vendor Relationship Management
- Build and maintain strong relationships with FBOs nationwide
- Negotiate transient fuel pricing, discounts, and volume-based incentives
- Establish preferred vendor agreements where advantageous
- Ensure service quality aligns with Northern Jet standards
Pricing Negotiation & Strategy
- Actively negotiate fuel pricing for high-volume routes and repeat destinations
- Coordinate with scheduling and dispatch to influence fuel purchasing decisions
- Identify opportunities for fuel tankers or strategic fueling when appropriate
- Track and enforce negotiated pricing agreements
Fuel Transaction Auditing
- Audit fuel invoices and receipts against quoted or negotiated pricing
- Identify billing discrepancies and recover overcharges
- Ensure all fuel transactions are properly allocated to trips
Operational Integration
- Provide guidance on preferred fueling locations and pricing expectations
- Develop processes that ensure fuel decisions are made proactively—not reactively
Data & Reporting
Maintain dashboard tracking:
- Cost per gallon
- Savings vs market benchmarks
- Vendor performance
- Compliance with preferred fueling strategy
- Deliver regular reporting to leadership with actionable insights
- Identify behavioral trends across pilots and scheduling teams
Policy & Compliance
- Develop and enforce company fuel purchasing guidelines
- Ensure alignment with any fuel programs, contracts, or operational requirements
- Train internal teams on best practices for fuel purchasing
Key Performance Indicators (KPIs)
- Reduction in average fuel cost per gallon through negotiation
- Total annual fuel cost savings ($ and %)

Qualifications
- Experience in aviation operations, fuel management, or vendor sourcing preferred
- Experience in risk management preferred
- Strong negotiation and relationship management skills
- Analytical mindset with ability to interpret pricing data and trends
- Ability to interpret market data and perform market research
- Familiarity with FBO networks, fuel pricing structures, and trip planning (preferred)
- Highly organized with strong attention to detail
- Ability to operate in a fast-paced, real-time operational environment
