Physical Therapist I  $50.89 - $ 71.10

Job Summary:

Responsible for the evaluation of patients referred for Physical Therapy (PT), formulation of a plan of care, and administration of PT treatments.  The staff Physical Therapist shall interact with all hospital departments, and medical staff.  Maintain the highest degree of confidentiality in all areas involving patients and their related hospital business.  Conduct hospital business in an ethical and lawful manner, and will report any knowledge of real or potential fraud or abuse according to the NIHD Compliance Code of Conduct.  Abide by the NIHD Personnel, Payroll Policies and Procedures.  Abide by Departmental Policies and Procedures, and standards of performance and conduct.

 

Job Relationships:

  1. Directly responsible to Director of Rehabilitation Services
  2. Supervises Physical Therapist Assistants, Rehab Aides and other support staff as required by California State Law
  3. Works closely with physicians, patients, families, other staff, nursing, other hospital departments, and other referral agencies

Physical Hazards:

Works in the general hospital setting. May be exposed to blood, body fluids, or tissues as well as patients in varying stages of infectious states.

  • Performs direct patient care in a safe and competent manner
  • Interprets the physician’s referrals, evaluates the patient’s level of function to determine plan of care, and assists in diagnosis as it pertains to PT treatment
  • Applies the principles of logic and evidence-based practice in the utilization and practice of PT
  • Produces documentation to support all aspects of PT care, including evaluation results, treatment, response to treatment, family/team conferences, and communication with others involved in the delivery of patient care.
  • Produces documentation that is accurate, concise, timely, and consistent with guidelines and requirements of the Rehabilitation Department, regulatory agencies, and third-party payers.
  • Educates others including patients, family, caregivers, staff, and other health care providers, using relevant and effective teaching methods.
  • Addresses patients’ needs for services other than PT with appropriate healthcare team members, as needed.
  • Manages resources such as time, space, equipment and supplies to achieve goals of the Rehabilitation Department, including:
    1. Setting priorities for the use of resources to maximize outcomes
    2. Using time effectively and completing assigned tasks in a timely and accurate manner
    3. Coordinating with other personnel and service providers to facilitate efficient and effective patient care
    4. Incorporating an understanding of economic factors in the delivery of PT services.
  • Uses support personnel according to legal standards and ethical guidelines.
  • Follows established safety and ergonomic practices to minimize risk to patient, self and others, while maximizing the patient’s recovery.  Notifies appropriate hospital personnel of any unsafe practice observed.

  • Learn and utilize basic computer skills including:  Microsoft Outlook, Microsoft Word, electronic medical records, payroll/time card system, and intranet

  4. Maintaining an enthusiastic and caring attitude

Minimum Qualifications:

Education: 

  • Graduate of an accredited program for Physical Therapy

Certification: 

    • Current Physical Therapist license in the state of California
  • Basic Life Support (BLS) within 2 months of hire and on-going

 

Preferred:

Experience:

  • Work experience in outpatient orthopedic PT setting
  • Work experience in acute care/inpatient PT setting
  • Experience in other PT specialty area(s) such as:  pelvic health, vestibular rehab, outpatient neurological rehab, pediatrics, and/or lymphedema

Education: 

  • Doctorate Degree in Physical Therapy or other related field

 

Certification: 

  • American Physical Therapy Association (APTA) Board-Certified Clinical Specialist
  • Other advanced certification(s) relevant to PT practice within NIHD


Physical Therapist II  $55.25 - $76.53
