What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Development position at Northern Illinois Hospice?
We are seeking a dynamic and strategic Director of Development to lead fundraising and donor relations for the Northern Illinois Hospice Foundation. This individual will be responsible for designing and executing development strategies that advance our mission, strengthen community support, and secure sustainable funding for hospice programs.
Key Responsibilities:
- Develop and implement a comprehensive fundraising plan, including annual giving, major gifts, planned giving, and special campaigns
- Cultivate and steward relationships with donors, community leaders, and corporate partners
- Lead grant writing and foundation relations to secure institutional support
- Collaborate with the Board of Directors and senior leadership to align fundraising goals with organizational priorities
- Oversee donor communications, recognition programs, and fundraising events
- Manage development staff and volunteers, fostering a culture of philanthropy
Qualifications:
- Bachelor’s degree required; advanced degree or CFRE certification preferred
- Minimum of 5–7 years of progressive experience in nonprofit fundraising or development leadership
- Proven track record in major gift solicitation and donor stewardship
- Strong communication, relationship-building, and organizational skills
- Passion for hospice care and commitment to advancing its mission
