Childcare Director – Northern Hills Child Care
Full-Time, Exempt | Norfolk, NE
Northern Hills Child Care is looking for a compassionate, fast-paced, and business-savvy leader to serve as our next Childcare Director. We believe there’s no such thing as a “bad” kid—and we’re looking for someone who leads with heart, curiosity, and calm while running a strong, financially healthy program.
This position is supervised by the Executive Director in partnership with The Well.
What You’ll Do
Lead People & Culture
- Model our core values: empathy, curiosity, connection, and calm.
- Support and motivate teachers through clear communication and consistent leadership.
- Build a positive, professional environment where staff and children feel supported and safe.
Oversee Operations & Finance
- Manage budgeting, tuition billing, collections, and overall financial health.
- Oversee CACFP program compliance and reporting.
- Maintain staff schedules and ensure licensing ratios are met.
- Ensure the facility is clean, safe, and well-maintained.
- Complete purchasing, inventory, and administrative tasks with accuracy.
- Balance daily priorities—being both organized and present in the classrooms.
Quality, Licensing & Compliance
- Ensure compliance with Nebraska DHHS licensing regulations.
- Maintain required files, inspections, trainings, and background checks.
- Support curriculum, classroom quality, and developmentally appropriate practices.
- Work toward and maintain Step Up To Quality goals (aiming for Step 5).
Family & Community Engagement
- Build strong relationships with families through open, supportive communication.
- Lead community outreach, events, and partnerships.
- Serve as a connector between families, staff, and community resources.
What We’re Looking For
- Bachelor’s degree in Early Childhood, Business, Child Development, or related field.
- Meets (or can meet) Nebraska DHHS Director qualifications.
- 3 years of early childhood leadership or business/administrative experience.
- Strong financial and organizational skills (CACFP experience a plus).
- A calm, energetic leader who thrives in a fast-moving environment and can juggle many priorities with warmth and professionalism.

Pay: $40,000.00 - $45,000.00 per year
