The Donor and Investor Relations Officer (DIRO) is a key member of the Northern Forest Center’s Fundraising team, focused on advancing the organization’s mission by combining donations and impact-first, community-driven investments to create the New Forest Future from New York’s Adirondacks to Maine’s North Woods. This role will build on the recent success of the $30 million Northern Forest Fund, stewarding and cultivating relationships with major donors and impact investors in the Portland, ME, Seacoast/Southern NH, and Boston, MA areas. The DIRO will engage a portfolio of high-capacity donors and investors to secure abundant resources needed to achieve bold results and lead fundraising efforts for transformational housing projects across the region with a focus on those in Maine and New Hampshire.

Supervises: No supervisory responsibilities
Job location: Hybrid/Remote role based in the Portland, ME, Seacoast/Southern NH, and Boston, MA areas, with occasional presence in the Concord, NH office and frequent travel throughout the region.
Responsibilities
The Donor and Investor Relations Officer (DIRO) is responsible for cultivating and stewarding relationships with a portfolio of major donors and impact investors, working closely with the Director of Development, President, and Development Manager to expand the donor and investor base and build on the Northern Forest Fund's success. This position is one of two regional DIROs on the team.
Donor and Investor Relations (75%)
- Build and manage a portfolio of 150 donors, investors and prospects capable of $25,000 - $50,000 contributions, investments and/or planned gifts.
- Collaborate with staff, board members, and volunteers to coordinate efforts and advance relationships.
- Conduct 100 visits annually, both virtually and in-person, to cultivate, engage and solicit donors, investors and prospects.
- Serve as a primary contact for impact investors, managing diverse relationships with individuals & families, their asset managers & advisors, family offices, institutions, corporations, faith groups and more.
- Develop and implement comprehensive donor and investor stewardship plans, including personalized proposals, thank yous, updates on program impact, and invitations to events.
- Assist in planning and executing donor and investor events, including developing materials and presentations.
Strategy and Campaign Leadership (15%)
- Collaborate with President, Director of Development, other staff and volunteers to develop strategy and messaging for impact investment funds, annual giving, planned giving and special campaigns to achieve overall fundraising results.
- Customize written reports, proposals and other engagement materials that incorporate input from donors on messaging and content.
- Play a key role in driving the capitalization of the Northern Forest Fund II, including securing new investments and rollovers.
- Lead special campaigns for property development projects in Maine and New Hampshire in close collaboration with staff and volunteers.
Administrative (10%)
- Develop and track donor and investor materials (e.g., proposals, pledges, commitments, reports) for portfolio in collaboration with the Development Manager.
- Maintain accurate records of communications, engagement activities, and donor information in CRM database (Salesforce).
- Contribute data to regular team reports on key metrics and fundraising progress.
- Use project management system (Asana) to collaborate within and across teams.
- Ensure donor information confidentiality.
- Participate in and lead team, staff, committee, and board meetings as needed.
- Support special projects and perform other tasks as assigned.
Qualifications
- 5 years proven experience in fundraising, major gift solicitation, and/or investor relations.
- Strong interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Excellent written and verbal communication abilities.
- Familiarity with CRM systems (Salesforce preferred) and donor engagement best practices.
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office 365 Suite is required. Working knowledge of Asana project management software (or equivalent) is highly desirable.
- Ability to travel frequently across the assigned region, with occasional travel across the Northern Forest region and to regional or national events.
Salary and Benefits
Salary range of $60,000 - $75,000 commensurate with experience. The Center provides a full benefits package including but not limited to employer-sponsored health insurance, short- & long-term disability coverage, flexible spending and dependent care accounts, employee-directed SIMPLE IRA with 3% match, 20 paid vacation days, 12-13 paid holidays in accordance with the Federal holiday schedule, 12 days paid sick leave, flexible schedule and a supportive workplace culture.
