Northern California Public Media (NorCal) serves the San Francisco region through two public television stations, KRCB and KPJK, and one public radio station, KRCB FM 104.9, offering PBS, NPR and Independent Public Broadcasting programming.
NorCal is one of Sonoma County’s largest non-profits, staffed with passionate individuals focused on our core mission to deliver honest and trusted content. NorCal is seeking an experienced, part-time HR and Business Assistant to provide administrative support for day-to-day business operations and HR duties. This person works closely with our outsourced accountant and HR consultant, the NETA Business Center (National Educational Television Association).
The HR and Business Assistant collaborates closely with department managers and the management team to fulfill NorCal’s organizational mission and its forward-looking goals and objectives. This position reports to the President and CEO.
Key Responsibilities:
Human Resources
· Manages portions of the hiring process including attending recruitment/job fairs, creating job postings, reviewing resumes, coordinating interviews, tracking of applicants, following up with candidates and onboarding of new employees
· Utilizes all-in-one HRIS software to efficiently process twice-monthly payroll and update personnel records
· Assists in the coordination of benefit enrollments and renewals for health, dental, vision, supplemental insurance and 403B retirement plans
· Works with HR consultants and management to formulate or revise personnel policies and procedures
· Maintains compliance with all Federal, State and County employment laws
· Addresses employee complaints promptly and professionally and works with management to resolve them
· Compiles and accurately processes employee documentation and records
· Completes the annual Equal Employment Opportunity reporting
· Maintains the Employee Handbook and workplace bulletin board
· Reviews current practices and policies to support the organization’s diversity goals
· Manages the off-boarding process for out-going employees
· Other duties as assigned by management
Payroll
· Coordinates with department managers and employees for verification of timecards
· Processes payroll
· Sends notification to NETA on benefit premium cost changes and coverage changes applicable to payroll deductions and payroll processing
· Coordinates and sends new hire paperwork and termination paperwork to NETA in a timely manner for onboarding and off-boarding functions
· Directs agency tax letters and state tax rate notices to NETA
· Sends employee retirement contribution changes to NETA
· Forwards salary and wage changes, personal information changes, tax withholding changes, and deduction changes to NETA in a timely manner
Business Assistant
· Assists in preparing purchase orders, reconciling credit card charges, and manages some vendor relations
· Provides support for accounts payable & accounts receivable, as needed
· Assists with preparing annual budget for administrative expenses
· Ensures FCC website compliance
· Oversees management of independent contractor agreements
· Maintains accurate business records
· Provides timely updates to management
· Other duties as assigned by management
EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
(An equivalent amount of training, education and experience will also be considered.)
· Bachelor’s degree or equivalent work experience
· Three to five years’ proven experience in a corporate or non-profit setting, with increasing responsibility supporting senior-level management
· Fluency in Microsoft Office, particularly Word, Excel and Outlook
· Ability to take responsibility and ownership for tasks and to use initiative and creativity to resolve problems

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Physical requirements are related primarily to the essential functions of any job. In order to perform the essential functions of this position, you must be able to sit, walk, stand, use your hands, reach, speak, and hear. You must be able to lift or exert energy up to 20 pounds 10 % of the time.

WHAT WE OFFER:
This is a part-time 22-30 hours per week, non-exempt position, at $25 per hour. Pro-rated benefits offered include medical, dental, vision, 403B, paid vacation and holidays, floating holidays, diversity training programs, flexible work schedule, and mental health resources.
