POSITION TITLE: Health Information Management (HIM) Technician
REPORTS TO (TITLE): Director of Health Information Management
PAY RANGE: $21.00 - $24.18 per hour (non-exempt)
Sacramento Behavioral Healthcare Hospital is looking for a Health Information Management (HIM) Technician to join our team! In this role, you'll be the behind-the-scenes hero keeping our patient records accurate, secure, and moving — supporting physicians, clinical staff, and the patients who depend on us every day. DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:
Organizes and manages health information ensuring quality, accuracy and timely accessibility of patient medical information. Processes release of information requests. Performs qualitative and quantitative chart analysis. Maintains security and privacy of patient records. Provides support to physicians and other disciplines within the organization.
KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Chart review, assembly, and scanning: Collect discharged charts from patient care units. Assemble charts based on established department guidelines. Analyze charts for deficiencies. . Communicate with phsicians and other clinical staff regarding deficiencies and follow up until complete.. Scan completed records into EMR.
- Release of Information: Process all requests for medical records received by mail, fax, or email according to State and Federal requirements, including HIPAA regulations. Ensure that the release of information is completed properly, timely, and valid.
- Clerical Support: Assist in answering telephone and taking accurate messages.Assist physicians and other clinical staff as needed. . Perform chart audits as requested. Facilitate gathering information needed by the Business Office for TARs
POSITION Requirements:
Knowledge and Experience:
- High school diploma or equivalent required, coursework in health information technology preferred
- One year of experience working with medical records preferred.
- Coursework specific to regulations pertaining to proper administration of medical records preferred.
- Demonstrated knowledge of patient privacy (HIPAA) relative to maintaining medical records required.
- Knowledge of medical terminology preferred.
- Knowledge of ICD-10 codes, preferred.

Physical Requirements:
While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to do the following:
- Use standard office equipment and access, input, and retrieve information from a computer. Use computer keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist-finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time.
