Formerly Aurora Santa Rosa Hospital, SRBHH was opened in 2016 and is regarded as an integral part of the greater Santa Rosa and Northern California mental health system of care. Conveniently located in the North Bay, this hospital consists of 144 acute psychiatric inpatient beds.

Santa Rosa Behavioral Healthcare Hospital (SRBHH) is regarded as an integral part of the greater Santa Rosa and Northern California mental health system of care.

Conveniently located in the North Bay, SRBHH serves adolescents and adults. We treat both mental health and co-occurring psychiatric and substance abuse conditions.

POSITION TITLE: Educational Specialist

PAY RANGE: $23.50-$27.50 Per Hour

REPORTS TO: Director of Human Resources

DESCRIPTION OF POSITION:

This position champions SRBHH education and training for employees.  This includes orientation, in-service training plans, competency requirements, New Hire Orientation (NEO), and professional development activities. The Educational Specialist maintains knowledge of, participates in further training provided, and understands the potential risks regarding occupational health hazards (e.g. bloodborne pathogen exposures).

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES:

  • Schedules training sessions as needed for Handle With Care (HWC) certification, Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation Certification (CPR), and other required staff training.
  • Ensures staff with expired or expiring compliances are scheduled for required or needed training sessions.
  • Monitors staff completion of all mandatory competencies including: new hire competencies, HWC certification, CPR certification, and all other competencies as deemed necessary by the Hospital.   Communicates completion status of all mandatory compliances to SRBHH leadership.
  • Collaborates with administration to assess staff development needs, plan and design training programs to meet identified needs, and evaluate the impact of programs offered.
  • Facilitates communication between employees and administration to ensure that orientation and training requirements are met in a timely manner.             
  • Introduces new methods and enhances existing methods to improve educational outcomes.
  • Displays intellectual curiosity and challenges conventional practices for the good of the organization.
  • Stays current with the new techniques in the field related to staff education, training and development.
  • Manages all platform-based training software. Coordinates with other education department members to ensure training platforms are up to date with facility training expectations.
  • Trains employees on the use of platform-based training systems.
  • Manages and assists in all new employee digital system accesses that would be required for their job duties or trainings: HCS Account, Windows Accesses, Communication Accesses, training platform access.
  • Plans and conducts NEO and onboarding experiences for all new staff.  Keeps SRBHH leadership informed of NEO content, NEO schedules, changes to NEO process and structure, and all other NEO related activities and information.
  • Communicates progress of all NEO attendees and contributes to the seamless transition into their new role.

Knowledge and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Psychology, Education or a related field preferred.
  • Minimum of 2 years’ experience with specific experience and knowledge in the areas of education, psychology, and staff development.
  • Knowledge of psychiatric service delivery system and treatment methods, with specific knowledge and skills in areas of risk management, infection control, and utilization review preferred.
  • Knowledge of applicable standards and regulations.
  • Current Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR) certification required, or obtained within initial orientation period.
  • Verbal de-escalation and physical intervention program as approved by the CNO.

  • Proficiency with software and/or equipment (including but not limited to: Microsoft Office applications including Outlook, Word, Excel and PowerPoint.)
  • Strong organizational skills with ability to prioritize projects, work relatively independently, manage multiple tasks, and meet deadlines.
  • Skilled in data collection, analysis, evaluation and interpretation.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  • Strong interpersonal skills.  Ability to work with people with a variety of background and educational levels.
  • Ability to work independently and as part of a team.
  • Good judgment, problem solving and decision-making skills.
  • Demonstrated commitment to working collaboratively as well as possessing the skills to lead, influence, and motivate others.

Physical Requirements:  

While performing the duties of this job, this position is frequently required to do the following: 

  • Use standard office equipment and access, input, and retrieve information from a computer.   Use computer keyboard with manual and finger dexterity and wrist-finger speed sufficient to perform repetitive actions efficiently for extended periods of time. 
  • Communicate effectively in person or via telephone in a manner which can be understood by those with whom the person is speaking, including a diverse population. 
  • Give and follow verbal and written instructions with attention to detail and accuracy. 
  • Perform complex mental functions and basic arithmetic functions; interpret complex laws, regulations, and policies; collect, interpret, and/or analyze complex data and information.
  • Vision: see details of objects at close range.
  • Coordinate multiple tasks simultaneously. 
  • Reach forward, up, down, and to the side. 
  • Sit or stand for minimum periods of one hour at a time and come and go from the work area repeatedly throughout the day.
  • Individual must be able to exert up to 50 pounds of force occasionally and to be able to lift, carry, push, pull, or otherwise move objects.
