Role Summary
The Technical Trainer I will engage in training technical staff in a variety of laboratory functions including but not limited to, animal husbandry, in-life, necropsy, and surgery across multiple species and some specialized tasks. The role of the trainer is to execute and implement the training program, monitor, and evaluate the development of staff, and adapt training to achieve technical proficiency and maintain a standard of quality.
Role Responsibilities
Assist with scheduling and delivering training.
Document and maintain complete and accurate training records.
Provide training on various husbandry and animal handling tasks across species.
Basic understanding of adult learners and learning styles along with the ability to clearly present topics to technical staff in a classroom or hands-on setting.
Evaluate and provide feedback on the progress and competency of trainees.
Other duties as assigned.
Role Requirements
High school Diploma/GED required. Bachelor’s degree in biology or related discipline preferred.
Minimum of 1 year of experience in Laboratory Animal Science or a minimum of 2 years of animal-related experience.
ALAT preferred or ability to complete certification within 6 months of hire.
Proficient with Microsoft Office core applications and the ability to learn and use additional applications.
Good written and oral communication skills.
Ability to handle common laboratory species.
Basic understanding of study design and protocols.
Knowledge of GLPs and other federal regulations relating to the care of laboratory animals.
Basic understanding of laboratory operations and data collection.

Special Requirements
This role works predominately in a laboratory setting. There will be exposure to animal pathogens and chemicals. There will be handling of, and/or exposure to, animal tissues and zoonotic organisms.
Ability to don and wear personal protective gear, including N95 masks and respirators.
Physical activity includes lifting (up to 50lbs), carrying (up to 40lbs for up to 50ft), pushing/pulling (up to 75lbs force), reaching, gripping/pinching, standing, and ascending ladders without restriction.
Ability to work beyond typical work schedule including, but not limited to, evenings, weekends, and extended shifts with short notice.
