Special Information

  • This position is an on-site position which requires the incumbent to

complete their work primarily at the Flagstaff Mountain campus with

or without accommodation. Opportunities for remote work are rare.

  • This is a non-renewable, 10-month position, starting mid-August

2025.

Job Description

The Martin-Springer Institute (MSI) is seeking a qualified candidate for

a postdoctoral scholar for 2025-2026. To enhance the global conversation

of MSI\'s mission we are especially interested in candidates who

demonstrate knowledge and research interests outside the U.S. context.

The fellow will contribute to the national and international visibility

and reputation of MSI by pursuing research on themes that promote MSI\'s

mission and its values. Research and scholarship are expected to lead to

publication. The fellow will be working closely with MSI and be an

active member of the NAU scholarly community, including teaching two

courses, being available to students, leading public presentations, and

serving as an intellectual resource for the broader community.

International applications are welcome.

Research and Publication - 55%

  • Refine and expand on completed PhD thesis or themes related to the

thesis.

  • Prepare primary and secondary research for thesis publication as

monograph or peer-reviewed articles.

  • Explore new research venues in field(s) of expertise.
  • Act as liaison with faculty in other disciplines where appropriate

and be a resource for students and faculty.

Classroom Management - 20%

  • Teach one 3 credit class per semester (Fall 2025 and Spring 2026).
  • Depending on expertise, the Fall 2025 course will be on the History

of the Holocaust (in the Department of Comparative Cultural

Studies).

  • Second course depends on qualification and disciplinary expertise of

candidate, preferably taught in College of Arts and Letters.

Program Outreach and Collaboration - 20%

  • Present at least one presentation at NAU.
  • Conduct possible class visits upon invitation by colleagues.
  • Pursue outreach to local and regional communities for speaking

engagement.

  • Participate in MSI events, including, if applicable, student

research projects.

  • Network with national/international contacts regarding MSI mission &

goals.

Other - 5%

  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • PhD in the Humanities, Social Sciences, Education or related fields.

Preferred Qualifications

  • PhD preferred to have been conferred between January 1, 2020 and

June 15, 2025.

  • Experience with studies in Holocaust, genocide, reconciliation,

Human Rights, cultural/collective memory, and/or trauma.

  • Familiarity with broader mission of the Martin-Springer Institute.
  • Inte national experience and/or an international component in the

candidate\'s PhD thesis and/or current Research Project.

  • Teaching experience (preferably in the Arts & Letters/Humanities).
  • Ability to teach an Introductory course on the Holocaust.

Knowledge, Skills, & Abilities

  • Ability to effectively engage students in an education environment.
  • Organizational skills.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Word, Excel, PowerPoint).
  • Highly motivated to perform research independently and in a

collaborative environment.

  • Establish and maintain effective working relationships.
  • Communicate effectively.
  • Promote a diverse, inclusive environment.
  • Ability to teach introductory course on the Holocaust.

Background Information

Northern Arizona University requires satisfactory results for the
