About The Opportunity

About the Role

Northeastern University is seeking an experienced Occupational Health & Safety Program Manager (OHSPM) to join our Environmental Compliance and Occupational Safety (ECOS) team. Reporting to the Director of Environmental Compliance and Occupational Safety, this role is central to developing, implementing, and managing the university's occupational health and safety compliance program across multiple campuses. You will serve as a trusted safety resource for university leaders, facilities personnel, and capital projects teams — evaluating the effectiveness of existing safety programs, driving continuous improvement, and fostering a proactive safety culture at every level of the organization.

What You'll Do

Regulatory Compliance (20%)Serve as the university's point of contact for occupational health and safety compliance, tracking local, state, and federal standards across industrial hygiene, construction safety, and worker health programs. You'll manage OSHA reporting requirements, liaise with regulators including OSHA and the Massachusetts Department of Labor Standards, and coordinate corrective actions in response to inspection findings.

Occupational Safety Program Management (30%)Oversee all occupational safety programs for Facilities Services, including confined space entry, lockout/tagout, fall protection, powered industrial trucks, electrical safety, hot work, and construction and renovation safety. You'll conduct risk assessments, job hazard analyses, and internal audits, manage the industrial hygiene monitoring and medical surveillance programs, and present safety performance data to leadership.

Safety Training (20%)Develop, deliver, and manage occupational health and safety training for facilities and capital project staff. You'll leverage Learning Management Systems and data management platforms to ensure employees across all campuses are equipped to recognize and respond to workplace hazards.

Systems Implementation & Stakeholder Communication (30%)Provide safety guidance on new facilities projects, conduct site inspections, perform gap analyses, and develop plans to address identified deficiencies. You'll assist with accident investigations, participate in emergency response planning, and engage with senior managers, peer institutions, and regulatory agencies to continuously improve the university's safety programs.

  • Comprehensive knowledge of federal, state, and local regulations impacting industrial and construction work (29 CFR 1910 and 1926)
  • Hands-on experience developing and delivering safety training to adult learners, covering topics including hazardous materials, lockout/tagout, fall protection, confined spaces, bloodborne pathogens, hot work, and other high-risk tasks
  • Demonstrated ability to anticipate, recognize, evaluate, and control workplace hazards
  • Working knowledge of safe work requirements for trades professions including plumbers, carpenters, electricians, HVAC, and mechanical workers
