Territory Manager

Scouting Professional Territory Manager:

The Scouting professional will lead, guide, and facilitate the efforts of adult volunteers on whom Scouting depends on to carry out its mission. It is the job of the Scouting professional to inspire, recruit, train, have fun, and support the Scouting America volunteers, in addition to working with community leaders and rallying public support for Scouting activities.

Responsibilities:

The Scouting professional is assigned to a territory within the Northeastern Pennsylvania Council that covers the counties of Lackawanna, Wayne, and parts of Pike, Susquehanna, and Wyoming counties. The territory is sustained and successful through the ability to promote, supervise, and work with local volunteers.

Work with a volunteer board of directors and other community business leaders to identify, recruit, train, guide, and inspire them to become involved in youth programs.

Be responsible for extending programs to community-based organizations through volunteers.

Secure adequate financial support for programs in assigned service area.

Achieve net income and participation objectives for assigned camps and activities.

Ensure that all program sites are served through volunteers, regular leaders' meetings, training events, and activities.

Be a good role model and recognize the importance of working relationships with other professionals and volunteers.

Provide quality service through timely communication, regular meetings, training events, and activities.

Have a willingness and ability to devote long and irregular hours to achieving council and area objectives.

Achieve progress towards specific goals and objectives which include: program development through collaborative relationships, volunteer recruitment, and training, fundraising, membership recruitment, and retention.

Collaborate with adult volunteers and oversee achievement of training for their respective role.

Strong marketing, fundraising, communication and program development background are highly desired.

Must be comfortable with public speaking and interacting with diverse audiences.

Self-motivated individuals with solid time management skills and strong organizational skills.

Committed to personal and professional productivity, while maintaining high ethical and professional working standards.

Non-profit, fundraising, sales, or marketing experience is a plus.

Materials & Equipment Used:

Motor vehicle, computer, copier, telephone, fax machine, and audio-visual equipment.

Requirements:

Must be willing to accept and meet Scouting America’s leadership and membership standards and subscribe to the Scout Oath and Law.

Attained 21 years of age or older unless prohibited by any applicable law.

A bachelor’s degree from an accredited college or university is preferred.

People-oriented, having the ability to work well with adult volunteers, community and business leaders, and representatives of other organizations.

Able to work varied hours when necessary to achieve positive objectives.

Believe in Scouting America and subscribe to its principles and standards.

Schedule varies with occasional nights and weekends.

Ability to travel for training at least once a year for one to two weeks.

A Scouting background is helpful but not required for employment.

Physical Activities & Requirements:

Physical requirements include reaching, standing, lifting, talking, hearing, repetitive motions, computer keyboarding and other tasks.

Mental Demands:

Reading, detail work, confidentiality, stress, problem solving, language, training, math, reasoning, verbal communication, written communication, customer contact, multiple concurrent tasks, frequent interruptions in a fast-paced environment continually changing.

Working Conditions:

The employee is not substantially exposed to adverse environmental conditions while in the office.

When visiting council camps, the employee may be exposed to some special adverse environmental conditions.

Compensation & Benefits:

Scouting America is seeking a full-time professional. This is a task and goal-oriented position promoting Scouting in the territory and council. Candidates will preferably live in the service territory and have opportunities to be promoted based on successful performance.
