Position Summary
Is accountable for the delivery of high-quality health care focused on the treatment of substance use disorders in adolescent and adult populations. Fulfills all duties and responsibilities associated with the Medical Provider position.
Position Accountabilities
Performs history and assessments, physical examinations, makes diagnoses, creates medical treatment plans of patients presenting with substance use disorders at admission and annually.
Reviews and completes all required medical documentation including histories, progress notes in a timely manner
Ensures that appropriate ECG, imaging and laboratory studies have been performed, interpreted and reviewed as needed.
Presents patient information, ancillary testing information, and treatment planning to the Medical Director for evaluation, consultation and signature.
Ensures that evidence for physiologic dependence, history of addiction, and exceptions for criteria and treatment planning are properly documented before the patient is dispensed medication.
Authorizes and manages medication dosing and changes
Diagnoses and assists in referral for services for primary medical or psychiatric services.
Performs collateral information gathering and care coordination from referred medical and psychiatric services.
Participates in continuous quality improvement.
Participates in case conferences and team meetings to review individual needs and service plans.
Ensures compliance with State and Federal regulations for prescribing.
Understands and implements privacy controls and consents including 42 CFR part 2 and HIPPA.
Ensures that medical treatment team standards and practices are developed and met.
Maintains established departmental policies and procedures, objectives, quality improvement programs, safety, environmental and infection control standards.
Maintains communication between medical staff, behavioral health, and ancillary departments for the purpose of problem solving. Utilizes appropriate lines of communication within all departments.
Monitors high risk and complicated cases and institutes appropriate actions.
Instructs and educates patients about medications for addiction treatment and health maintenance.
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Assists providers and aids patients and families as needed in times of stress or crisis.
Participates in administrative staff meetings and attends other meetings as assigned.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Education - Completion of a program in Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Licensure APRN, Board Eligible or Board Certified PA
Required - Minimum of three years work experience as a PA or NP or otherwise be eligible for independent prescribing.

Employment Standards - Mastery knowledge of:
- Requires knowledge of the principles, practices and medical treatment regarding the care of patients with substance use disorders and mental illness in adult and adolescent patients.
- Requires knowledge of social aspects, attitudes, characteristics, and behaviors of patients with substance use disorders, emotional disturbances, and mental illness
- Requires knowledge, technique and communication skills for the care and treatment of mental illness and substance abuse in adult and adolescent patients.
Working Knowledge of - Laws and regulations as they relate to clients’ legal rights
Minimum Experience - One year clinical experience and three (3) years health care experience, may be in other fields
Preferred Experience - Three (3) years clinical experience and (5) years healthcare experience.
Required Certification/Registration - Current and unrestricted license to practice as an APRN or PA. Current DEA license, Current OBNDD license,
Current DATA 2000 waiver or plans to acquire one prior to onboarding.
Management Experience - Excellent human relations and oral/written communications skills expressing complex and technical terminology and
concepts in an understandable manner. Establish and maintain effective work relationships with others
