Position Summary
Supervises the performance of work in the complex laboratory. Coordinates a variety of administrative, fiscal, and technical activities to ensure efficient operation of all toxicology laboratory functions.
Position Accountabilities
1. Maintains departmental reports and records and collects statistical data for administrative and regulatory purposes
Assist with the selection, and training of department staff, and with evaluating performance, and makes recommendations for personnel actions
Directs, supervises, and coordinates technical functions and activities in the toxicology laboratory
Directs documentation, establishes record system, and maintains all laboratory records, reports, statistics, logs, and files
Maintains good relations with administration and staff. Consults with administrative staff on matters relating to the toxicology laboratory services
Directs the purchasing/requisitioning of laboratory supplies and equipment
Performs duties of the medical technologist.
Prepares patient samples for the LC/MS machines LC/MS maintenance standard and quality controls.
Prepares solventsAnalyzes and verifies patient results. Participates in educational programs and inservice meetings. Assists with care and maintenance of department equipment and supplies.
Attends meetings as required
Enhances professional growth and development through participation in educational programs, current literature, in-service meetings, and workshops.
Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
Minimum Education- Bachelor’s Degree (Biology or Chemistry)
Minimum Experience- Sufficient previous experience in all areas of the laboratory with 2 years experience
Minimum Field-of-Expertise- Medical technology
Required Certification/Registration- Certified as a medical technologist (ASCP)
Preferred Education- Master’s Degree
Preferred Experience- Laboratory and pipetting experience (through related course work or career)
Preferred Course(s)/Training - Computer experience (Windows OS, Laboratory Information Systems)
Preferred Certification/Registration- MT (ASCP), DLM
Management Experience- Excellent human relations and oral/written communications skills, Proven managerial skills, Supervisory experience
