Position Overview:

As a Field Scientist, you'll independently execute diverse tasks related to field work, emphasizing autonomy and proficiency. This position involves meticulous preparation for field events and the composition of high-quality, comprehensive field reports.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Conduct sample collection and field measurement activities across diverse matrices, encompassing surface water, groundwater, soil, air, and biota.
  • Prepare for field events, including reviewing project documentation, arranging equipment, organizing field supplies, and verifying the integrity of sample containers.
  • Support site investigation and remediation efforts with a focus on Phase I and Phase II environmental site assessments.
  • Elevate technical tasks by embracing a scientific approach, demonstrating understanding of purpose, exercising judgment, and applying scientific principles while utilizing tools and procedures in field work and data collection.
  • Engage in technical analysis, solution development, and report writing for intricate environmental compliance tasks.
  • Ensure that samples are preserved appropriately to meet laboratory acceptance criteria.
  • Communicate clearly and concisely with project managers and data management on quality concerns in a timely manner.
  • Clean and maintain all field instruments, workspaces, and vehicles, reporting any maintenance issues to the vehicle or equipment manager.
  • Calibrate and operate scientific instruments according to manufacturer specifications or project requirements and document all calibration information.
  • Conduct peer review of field reports for quality issues.
  • Serve as a knowledgeable resource on applicable regulatory guidelines and other external guidance documents, driving the purpose of field procedures and sample collection.
  • Be a leader in improving our culture of quality and safety.
  • Meet or exceed an annual utilization target.
  • Perform other duties as assigned or necessary.

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of federal and state environmental regulations.
  • Demonstrated knowledge of scientific principles as they relate to environmental data collection.
  • Demonstrated ability to write comprehensive field reports that are technically accurate, free of typographical and grammatical errors, and have a low rate of rejection.
  • Ability to meet utilization targets, meet deadlines, and manage priorities.
  • Ability to meet and understand project budgets.
  • Effective written and verbal communication skills, emphasizing collaborative teamwork.
  • Excellent attention to detail, strong analytical judgment, and a strong desire for continuous learning and professional growth.
  • Maintain at least one state or federal certification related to water, wastewater, asbestos, lead, mold, stormwater, solid waste, hazardous waste, wetlands, drone piloting, construction materials testing, surveying, ecology, or geology.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Master’s degree in a relevant science or engineering discipline or 1 years professional experience
  • State or federal certifications related to water, wastewater, asbestos, lead, mold, stormwater, solid waste, hazardous waste, wetlands, drone piloting, construction materials testing, surveying, ecology, or geology.
