1:1 Student Care Provider (LNA/RN/CNA) Reports to: Building Administrator / Special Education Administrator Classification:Part-time, Hourly, Non-aligned, Non-Benefited Hours:Approximately 16 - 24 hours per week, based on assigned student school schedule and needs Position Summary The 1:1 Student Nursing Care Provider provides individualized health and personal care support to an assigned student with special education needs. The employee works as part of the student's educational and support team to ensure the student's health, safety, dignity, and access to their educational program. The position provides direct care and support according to the student's Individualized Education Program (IEP), individualized health care plan, physician orders, nursing protocols, and directions from the supervising school nurse, as applicable. Responsibilities may include personal care, toileting, feeding, medication-related support, monitoring of health needs, implementation of nursing procedures within the employee's scope of practice, and response to medical or health-related concerns. The employee maintains student confidentiality and works collaboratively with special education staff, classroom staff, school nursing personnel, families, and other service providers. Responsibilities

• Provide consistent, one-on-one care and support to the assigned student throughout the school day, including transitions, meals, recess, and field trips, helping the student take part as independently and fully as possible in classroom and school activities
• Follow the student's IEP, individualized health care plan, and emergency action plan
• Assist with personal care needs such as toileting, diapering, hygiene, dressing, feeding, and hydration according to the student's plan, always protecting the student's privacy and dignity
• Support safe mobility, positioning, and transfers appropriate to the student's needs and the employee's training
• Watch for changes in the student's health, mood, or behavior and promptly share concerns with the classroom teacher, special education staff, and/or school nurse
• Carry out student-specific health procedures and medication-related tasks as authorized by the school nurse and/or medical provider, within the employee's credential, training, and applicable regulations
• Respond calmly to medical or behavioral emergencies, following the student's emergency action plan and school procedures, and keep accurate, confidential records of care provided
• Work closely with the school nurse, classroom teacher, paraeducators, related service providers, administrators, and family to support the student, and take part in meetings and training as requested
• Maintain confidentiality of student information in line with FERPA, HIPAA (where applicable), and district policy, and maintain professional boundaries and communication with students, families, and staff at all times

Qualifications

• Current, unencumbered credential as a Vermont Registered Nurse (RN), Vermont Licensed Nursing Assistant (LNA), or a Certified Nursing Assistant (CNA) credential recognized by the State of Vermont and legally permitted to perform the assigned duties
• Current CPR/First Aid certification, or willingness to obtain within an agreed-upon timeframe
• Willingness to complete training specific to the assigned student's care needs and procedures
• 2-3 years of experience working with children, students with disabilities, or individuals who need personal care is preferred
• Ability to follow written and verbal direction from medical providers and the supervising school nurse
• Ability to work as part of a team and to maintain confidentiality and professional boundaries
• Ability to respond calmly and appropriately to medical, behavioral, and emergency situations Note: The specific procedures and duties assigned to the employee will depend on the employee's credential and training, the assigned student's individual needs, applicable Vermont regulations, and direction from the authorized medical provider.

• Work is performed primarily in the school environment, including classrooms, hallways, cafeterias, gymnasiums, playgrounds, and outdoor areas
• Frequent movement throughout the school building and grounds
• Sitting, standing, walking, bending, kneeling, crouching, and reaching
• Assisting with transfers, positioning, mobility, and personal care
• Lifting or assisting a student, including lifting up to 40 pounds, as required by the student's individual care plan and the employee's training
• Exposure to bodily fluids and communicable illness; standard precautions are required
• Responding quickly to student health or safety needs
