What are the responsibilities and job description for the Gas Technician position at Northeast Ohio Natural Gas?
DUTIES & RESPONSIBILITIES
- Serves as a First Responder for odor of gas complaints, CO complaints, and pipeline emergencies.
- Accurately performs pressure tests using appropriate testing equipment.
- Performs work orders to include but not limited to:
- leak calls
- odor complaints
- final bills
- meter installs
- service turn on/off
- transfers of service
- meter re-reads
- Performs compliance-related tasks as assigned to include but not limited to:
- leak surveys using leak detection equipment
- regulator & relief inspections
- operate key valves
- cathodic inspections
- line patrols & exposed pipe inspections
- Performs systems maintenance and upkeep to include but not limited to:
- mowing and trimming to maintain right of ways
- painting above ground appurtenances
- installing line markers
- locating and completing necessary documentation.
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES
The team member in this role will:
- Serve as an Individual Contributor without supervisory responsibilities.

EDUCATION & WORK EXPERIENCE
- High school diploma or equivalent, required.
- At least two (2) years of experience in the natural gas industry, preferred.
- Must possess and maintain a class D driver’s license with medical card and have minimal driving infractions.
- Employment is contingent upon successfully completing all required testing and DOT standards.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The ideal candidate must be able to complete the following physical requirements of the job with or without a reasonable accommodation:
- Must be able to lift and carry up to 50 pounds frequently (e.g., tools, meters, piping).
- Ability to climb ladders, stairs, and work on roofs or elevated surfaces; must maintain balance in precarious positions.
- Must be able to bend, stoop, kneel, and crawl to access confined spaces such as basements, crawlspaces, and utility vaults.
- Extended periods of standing and walking are required, sometimes on uneven terrain or in outdoor environments.
- Good hand-eye coordination and ability to use hand tools and power tools with precision.
- Must have sufficient vision to read gauges, meters, blueprints, and operate equipment safely.
- Able to hear warning signals, communicate with team members, and detect abnormal equipment sounds.
- Willingness and ability to work in varying weather conditions including extreme heat, cold, rain, or snow.
- Must be able to wear personal protective equipment (PPE), including respirators, gloves, and protective clothing as required.
- Must be physically able to drive a service vehicle and hold a valid driver’s license with a clean driving record.
WORK CONTEXT
- Respond to emergency situations and be available for overtime as needed.
- Must be able to be in a call out rotation and respond after hours, weekends and holidays.
