What are the responsibilities and job description for the Finishing Technician / Hazardous Waste Coordinator position at Northeast Lantern?
Northeast Lantern is looking for a Finishing / Hazardous Waste Technician. This position will report directly to our Operations Manager. No prior experience needed.
The main goal of the position will be to finish our light fixtures with a patina that is applied through water based chemicals. Other duties include the proper handling of the chemicals once they have reached the end of their life, and general safety protocols for the whole facility. On the job training will take place, no prior knowledge needed.
PRIMARY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Responsible for cleaning finished product and applying chemical finishes to metal.
- Ability to meet deadlines, concentrate, and pay close attention to detail. Strong safety orientation.
- Monitor and maintain inventory, including materials, equipment, and labor requirements.
- Assist in the monitoring and completing routine scheduled maintenance of equipment, i.e. pumps, fans, water levels, temperature gauges, and filters
- Inspects outgoing parts and liquids to assure quality
- Aids other departments as deemed necessary
- Maintain cleanliness of work area and equipment
- Conduct and oversee inventory counts and accuracy as needed as part of routine cycle counts and end of year inventory
EDUCATION:
High School or equivalent required.
EXPERIENCE:
No prior experience needed, however, must be willing to pursue training to upgrade their education and sharpen skills. General Hazardous Waste Coordinator and Facility Safety experience is preferred.
QUALIFICATIONS:
· Experience with Microsoft Office Suite preferred
· Basic knowledge of manufacturing and production processes
· Strong communication and organization
· Accuracy and attention to detail
· Over time, a background and experience in all facets of hazardous waste and a facility safety program are expected.
The incumbent must be able to build positive relationships with leadership and employees in order to ensure proper work flow, documentation, and a safe work environment is carried throughout. Incumbent must feel comfortable calling in management support when needed and with working with the management team to set achievable production.
SKILLS, KNOWLEDGE, ABILITY:
General ability needed to learn, understand, and apply knowledge of working equipment and methods needed to color the lanterns. The Finisher must be able to maintain sharp focus and be extremely organized to assure objectives are met on time and at, or exceeding, production expectations and guidelines. The position requires the ability to apply sound ethical business judgment to all decisions.
PHYSICAL DEMANDS:
Standing/walking 90%; sitting 10%. Lifting up to 80 lbs.; carrying up to 80 lbs. Must be able to work a 40-hour work week with occasional overtime as needed.
