POSTED ON 4/29/2024 CLOSED ON 5/2/2024

What are the responsibilities and job description for the Executive Director position at Northeast Georgia History Center?

About the Northeast Georgia History Center

Located on the Brenau University campus in Gainesville, Georgia, the Northeast Georgia History Center is dedicated to preserving and sharing our regional history and being our community’s pathway to history education.

Through educational programs, community events, exhibits, and historic structures, we strive to be a leading resource for promoting a greater understanding of local, state, and national history. The board of directors seeks an Executive Director who brings to the challenge the strength and spirit of the region and the History Center, an effective leader who is bold, but also practical – one who is personable, and highly engaging. While being a historian is not required, a passion for history education and an interest in history is important in this role.

The History Center is truly a “hidden gem” in the region. Visitors of all ages are provided with unique learning experiences through living history interpretation, a methodology that integrates theatrical performance and historic character portrayal.

Schools and homeschool groups from Hall County and 13 surrounding counties visit throughout the year for field trips and Homeschool Days. During the academic year of 2022-2023, the History Center had over 3,900 students visit for these programs. Visitors and Members also enjoy special events throughout the year like traditional teas, historic dance events, and special guest lecturers.

The History Center’s Digital Studio is one of its most prized assets. Through the digital studio, the History Center provides interactive and virtual “Time Travel Adventures” for schools and homeschool groups in which students meet historic figures of the past with a time travel guide. This program has served over 20,000 students since 2017 and offers exciting opportunities as it expands outside of Georgia.

Along with a highly collaborative staff, the new Executive Director will be a champion of our mission and programs to connect the broader community to the History Center.
