JOB SUMMARY, DESCRIPTION & QUALIFICATIONS:
Job Summary
This person is responsible for the overall grounds maintenance and care of the college. The responsibilities include operation of snow removal equipment, heavy equipment, fleet vehicles, light equipment, and hand-operated equipment. In addition, this person will maintain the department service garage and college warehouse.
Essential Functions
Perform all duties and tasks directly associated with grounds maintenance and care.
Mow, cut, and trim grass covered areas.
Maintain shrubs, flower beds, trees, and all other horticultural areas.
Continually evaluate for recommendation and implementation methods and modifications that will improve aesthetics and efficiencies in performing grounds care and maintenance.
Maintain sidewalks, driveways, and parking lots, to include, but not limited to, snow removal, pothole filling, painting, grading, and power sweeping.
Maintain and repair outside signage, furniture, flags, and refuse containers.
Selectively apply fertilizers, herbicides, and pesticides to grounds. Maintain all records for same.
Perform routine maintenance and repairs to fleet vehicles & grounds care equipment.
Prepare grounds equipment for seasonal use and storage.
Repair damage to grounds and horticulture caused by construction, vandalism, natural acts, and disease.
Maintain outside trash containers, pick up trash and debris from grounds, and collect recycling.
Provide transportation and courier services for District operations.
Maintain warehousing, storage, and retrieval for the District.
Know and practice safety precautions in performance of duties.
Additional Functions
Maintain an operating time log for each piece of equipment and machinery and report needed repairs to supervisor.
Advise supervisor of equipment needing major repair and/or replacement.
Comply with any assignment if it is in the nature of any emergency as expressed by a supervisor or member of management.
Maintain secure areas for equipment and District property.
Provide protective barriers for hazardous locations on the grounds.
Monitor and provides guidance for the part-time summer help crew.
Assist in the maintenance staff as need.
Capable and willing to work outdoors in all types and forms of climate and weather.
Other related duties as assigned.

Qualifications
Two years of diversified, successful experience in grounds care.
Extensive knowledge of horticulture, heavy equipment operations, grounds care equipment operations, pesticide and herbicide equipment operations, the maintenance of associated grounds care equipment, Right-to-Know laws, and handling, labeling, and disposal of hazardous materials.
Private pesticide applicator certificate per Wisconsin statutes, OR acquire a private pesticide applicator certificate within the timeframe outlined by NTC after starting the position.
Willing to maintain and/or acquire certifications and licensing to meet the requirements of the position and the District. Must be a self-starter. Must be reliable and dependable enough to maintain efficient work patterns without close supervision.
Willing to adjust daily work-shift hours to meet the immediate needs of the position and College.
Ability to read work instructions, schedules, warning signs, and equipment operations manuals.
Physical strength and stamina to perform required work.
Ability to lift 75 lbs. and ability to lift 75 lbs. to a height of 6 feet on a regular and reoccurring basis.
Ability to work and communicate with co-workers, faculty, students, management, and administration, as well as the many publics that use the District's facilities and grounds.
