**GENERAL PURPOSE**
The Clerical Technician 1 -- Gift Shop (Part-Time) is responsible for running the day-to-day operations of the Gift Shop at Gracedale Nursing Home. The individual in this role will provide excellent service to guests and residents while also maintaining a clean, organized, and welcoming atmosphere.
This position works every Friday (9a-3p) and every other weekend (both Saturday and Sunday) 9a-3p. Additional shifts may be available and/or required to cover for illness, vacations, etc.
**SUPERVISION RECEIVED**
This position reports directly to the Coordinator of Volunteers.
**SUPERVISION EXERCISED**
This position is not responsible for the supervision of other employees.
**ESSENTIAL DUTIES OF THE POSITION**
Counts cash register drawer at start of shift as well as reconciling the drawer at the end of shift. Prepares drawer for opening next day.
Greets residents and guests, and completes transactions in a friendly and courteous manner.
Displays patience and sensitivity to the needs and requests of residents.
Stocks shelves as needed, displaying items in a visually appealing manner. Rotates stock to ensure continuously fresh merchandising.
Changes seasonal displays and decorations on a timely basis.
Labels and prices new merchandise.
Organizes greeting cards.
Alerts Volunteer Department when postage stamps require reorder.
Closes gift shop at the end of the day, preparing receipts with all necessary worksheets.
**EDUCATION & EXPERIENCE** -- Completion of a high school, or general equivalency diploma; **AND**
At least six (6) months of retail experience preferred, but not required.
All employees of Gracedale Nursing Home will be required to attend Feeding Program training.
**KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, AND ABILITIES**
Possesses knowledge of simple mathematical functions, such as addition and subtraction, to reconcile cash drawer.
Ability to use computerized point of sale system, which processes both cash and credit card transactions.
Excellent communication and interpersonal skills with the ability to listen effectively, respond appropriately, and maintain mutual comfort level while relating to a diverse clientele.
Ability to maintain a neat, clean, and well-stocked retail space.
Ability to read, write, speak, understand and communicate in English to perform the duties of this position.
**TOOLS AND EQUIPMENT**
Telephone, calculator, computerized point of sale system, and writing implements.

While performing the duties of this job, the employee is frequently required to walk, sit, talk or hear.
