What is The Crew?
The Crew is a free social group for Butte County teens ages 12-17 with opportunities each week to feel connected to peers and avoid isolation, enhance protective factors for mental health, enjoy after-school snacks included in each group, play games, earn prizes, and complete fun projects to take home. From future planning and coping skills to nature walks and pizza parties, The Crew is where play meets prevention in the name of youth wellness.
Job Summary
The Crew Leaders are responsible for co-leading and supporting fun social groups throughout Butte County designed to help young people combat loneliness, social isolation, or other challenges. This role involves creating a supportive environment, guiding games and activities, and empowering participants to build social skills and peer support networks. Crew leaders will also facilitate tabling events and presentations at Junior High Schools, High Schools and Community Events to create hope, educate about NVCF Cares programs, have fun and connect with young people and their families in a meaningful way.
Responsibilities
- Group Management: Facilitate group sessions, ensuring a safe, welcoming, and inclusive atmosphere where all members feel comfortable participating.
- Activity Planning: Help design and implement engaging activities, discussions, or games to meet group objectives. Lead set up and clean up of program spaces.
- Encourage Participation: Motivate and support all group members to actively engage in discussions and activities and maintain confidentiality.
- Conflict Resolution: Mediate conflicts that arise within the group, helping members explore different viewpoints and find common ground.
- Resource Connection: Provide information and resources to group members and to other support services when appropriate.
- Record Keeping: Maintain accurate and timely records of group sessions, member progress, and outcomes.
- Collaboration: Coordinate with other staff members and attend mandatory team meetings.
Skills and Qualifications
- Strong communication, listening, and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to engage enthusiastically with young people.
- Ability to adapt activities for diverse developmental levels.
- Excellent problem-solving and conflict resolution abilities.
- Experience in facilitation, group dynamics, or a related social services field.
- Ability to work empathetically and respectfully with diverse populations.
- Proficiency in record-keeping and documentation.
- High School Diploma or GED Certificate required.
Position Details
- Work hours: Hourly/part time; approximately 10-20 hours per week. Group times may include late afternoons and evenings.
- Hourly Rate: $20-$25 an hour.
- Benefits: Paid sick leave, mileage reimbursement, and cellphone stipend.
- Location: The positions will work on-site at NVCF’s office at Meriam Park, Chico, California, with groups and activities facilitated throughout Butte County (Chico, Oroville, Paradise and Gridley).

These positions will receive professional development and training such as how to effectively engage youth, infusing trauma informed care, mandated reporting as well as other professional growth opportunities.
