The Senior Manager of Transportation will provide the vision, leadership and management necessary to ensure that the Food Bank’s Transportation department functions efficiently and meets annual and long-term goals. This leader will be responsible for the oversight of all of NTFB’s transportation resources which include approximately twenty-three trucks and various MHE.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Education/Certifications:
- Bachelor’s degree in business, logistics, supply chain management or related field, or equivalent combination of education and experience
Special Knowledge/Skills/Abilities:
- Well-developed numerical and analytical skills
- Proficiency with transportation management systems and dynamic routing systems
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to prepare strong business cases with supporting data
- Proven change management skills and ability to build and lead high-performing, cross-functional teams
- Thorough understanding of DOT and FMCSA safety regulations
- Extensive knowledge of private fleet maintenance operations, including preventative maintenance schedules and repairs.
Experience:
- Five years of transportation management experience, leading large teams, assessing talent, collaborating cross-functionally and managing performance and career development
PRINCIPLE DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Develop, implement and advance transportation strategies and processes that improve utilization, effectiveness and efficiency of transportation resources, in accordance with established policies and objectives
- Submit recommendations for transportation policies, procedures and programs to ensure compliance
- Plan and direct vehicle scheduling, allocation, dispatching, and licensing through the use of fleet automation software platforms
- Ensure that the transportation department is supported by and leverages a strong technology infrastructure
- Conduct field surveys to evaluate operations and make recommendations for improvement
- Direct compilation and preparation of statistical surveys to define traffic trends
- Review and analyze reports, such as utilization patterns to secure information for recommended changes
- Direct operation and maintenance of communication systems, review procedures, provide guidance to resolve technical problems, and analyze and recommend cost control measures
- Select and manage outside transportation providers, as needed
- Manage the refueling schedules, costs and fuel vendor relationship to ensure adequate availability of resources and to prevent disruption of transportation services
- Manage and develop an annual departmental operating budget, RFPs and monitor expenditures to ensure compliance with cost objectives
- Lead and manage all transportation projects; design and develop work plans, process improvements and policies
- Maintain fleet and drivers in compliance with DOT regulations
- Coordinate tracking of all relevant information on drivers, such as license status, traffic tickets, accidents and other risk and safety-related data
- Audit compliance of both internal and external SOP’s
- Complete any required training and promote safety initiatives in accordance with Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration (FMCSA), with the ability to implement change
- Develop criteria, application instructions, procedural manuals, and contracts to ensure adherence to all federal and state public transportation programs
- Promote a positive work environment where staff feels engaged, valued, and motivated
- Equitable and timely leadership of performance management and team objectives
- Perform other tasks and duties as assigned
SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITIES:
- Lead a team of approximately 17 direct reports
