About North Star Reach
Located on 105 acres in Pinckney, Michigan, North Star Reach is a medical specialty camp and proud member of the SeriousFun Children’s Network founded by Paul Newman. We provide fully accessible, medically supported camp programs, always free of charge, to children with serious health challenges and their families.
About the Role
The Nursing Director is a full-time, year-round leadership position responsible for overseeing all aspects of medical care during camp programs, maintaining safety and compliance standards, managing medication systems, guiding volunteer medical staff, and coordinating with families, providers, and partners. This is an opportunity to merge pediatric nursing expertise with meaningful, mission-driven impact in a joyful, outdoor setting.
Key Responsibilities
- Lead medical operations during summer and family camp programs
- Oversee medication management, screenings, care plans, and emergency procedures
- Recruit, train, schedule, and support volunteer medical providers
- Ensure compliance with ACA, state licensing, SeriousFun standards, and HIPAA
- Review medical applications and communicate with families and providers
- Manage year-round medical planning, protocols, supplies, and documentation
- Serve as a key member of the Medical Team and Medical Advisory Council
Required Qualifications
- Registered Nurse (RN) with active or eligible Michigan license
- BSN required; MSN preferred
- Minimum 5 years of pediatric, emergency, or camp/school nursing experience
- Leadership or supervisory experience in a clinical or camp setting
- Strong communication skills and ability to thrive in fast-paced, dynamic environments
- Commitment to inclusive, child-centered care
Preferred Qualifications
- PALS certification
- Experience supporting children with complex medical needs
- Familiarity with ACA or SeriousFun standards
