What are the responsibilities and job description for the Research and Filings Analyst Intern - Research and Development position at North Star Mutual Insurance Company?
RandD is directly involved in reviewing and making changes to North Stars current products and developing new products in collaboration with underwriting, actuarial, claims, information technology and agency support services departments. As required by law, RandD files product changes with the insurance regulators of each state in which North Star operates. After regulatory approval, RandD coordinates implementation of product changes with many departments within North Star, company partners and also rating software vendors. Researching insurance department filings; creating and updating statistical reports; managing the form room; maintaining online forms listings and agents manuals; studying North Stars amount of property risk in various cities; and maintaining statistical plans are other duties handled by this department.
North Star Mutual Insurance Company is looking for applicants for our spring 2026 Research and Filings Analyst internship. Students will have the opportunity to work with a variety of statistical reports, assist with making changes to manuals/forms, conduct competitor research and update the concentration of business records and maps. Gathering information for product reviews, participating in the process for regulatory filings and being an active participant in product review meetings are key functions of this interesting and data based internship experience. Other duties/projects may be assigned.
Individuals with strong math, analytical and statistical skills, those proficient in EXCEL and other computer programs, have an eye for detail and are solid communicators are encouraged to apply. Individuals may be exposed to confidential Company information and must be able to maintain that throughout and following their experience at North Star.
The pursuit of an Associates or Bachelors degree in business, math, finance, data science or a related field is preferred for this internship. Preference will be given to students enrolled in the North Star Mutual School of Business at Southwest Minnesota State University.
Compensation: $18.00 per hour.
