What are the responsibilities and job description for the Risk Specialist position at North Slope Borough?
Provides technical and administrative support to Risk Manager; monitors property, liability and workers' compensation claims.

Maintains and monitors confidential files, claims records and reports; creates initial folders for new claims; collects and files required documentation; researches discrepancies.
Assists in research and resolves inquiries from employees with claim questions regarding policies and procedures.
Reviews and processes claim forms and other related documents.
Updates and maintains employee claims database; reviews and processes supporting documentation; enters claim data into electronic and manual filing systems; reviews entries for accuracy and correctness, and reporting requirements.
Assure effective communications between claimants and claims administrators, medical providers, payroll and others as necessary.
Tracks, categorizes and records accidents and claims in OSHA and other records systems; reviews and report accidents and incident trends of interest for revised training programs.
Assesses ergonomics of employee work stations as directed; reviews employee work processes and recommends changes to reduce workplace discomfort.
Monitors progress of employees returned to work after workplace injury.
Works with insurance carrier and upper management to process general liability third party claims; processes documents, and maintains database and filing system.
Maintain confidentiality of records on sensitive claim information.
Process documents to update the driving record database for the Borough.
Will be required to travel to the villages within the North Slope Borough.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge of Borough policies and procedures.
Knowledge of the principles of personnel files and records management.
Knowledge of claims processing rules, regulations and computer systems.
Skill in understanding, interpreting and applying relevant rules and regulations.
Skill in assessing and prioritizing multiple tasks, projects and demands.
Ability to maintain the confidentiality of files and reports.
High school graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
Two years of clerical work experience;
One year of insurance claims administration work experience;
Valid Alaska Driver's License that meets North Slope Borough insurance criteria.
