Summary or Purpose
Operate and maintain stationary engines and mechanical equipment to provide continuous power, water and sewer services to village residents.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Monitors, operates and maintains power plant equipment in accordance with standard Department procedures and Borough policy; may supervise staff and provide guidance and training to other operators.
Monitors equipment and gauges and makes necessary adjustments to water temperatures and pressures.
Operates and maintains stationary engines, generator sets, associated mechanical equipment and facilities.
Changes oil, fuel and air filter.
Maintain a daily log of equipment performance, power output, generator operations, and power and fuel outages.
Installs and monitors new electrical services and meters.
Complete monthly meter readings reports, work orders and documentation.
Assists Lead Power Plant Operator and Village Services Supervisor with inventory; requests, receives and store supplies and equipment.
Inspects and cleans equipment and facility; reports maintenance needs and deficiencies to supervisor.
Comply with all safety rules and regulations.
May be required to work a non-traditional work schedule to include evening, holidays and weekends and may be subject to 24 hour on-call status.
Attend all required scheduled safety meetings.
Responds to power plant alarms and power failures, and reports problems to supervisor.
Perform other duties as assigned.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of North Slope Borough organization, operations, policies and procedures.
Education, Experience, Certifications and Licenses Required
High school graduate or G.E.D/or, a combination of 12 years of education and related work experience.
Two years of power plant work experience.
Ability to obtain site specific Resource Conservation and Recovery Act (RCRA) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § within the probationary period.
Ability to obtain Hazardous Waste and Emergency Response (HAZWOPER) current certification within the probationary period.
Ability to obtain Small Quantity Handler training in accordance with 40 C.F.R. § within the probationary period.
Ability to obtain site specific Spill Prevention, Control, and Countermeasure (SPCC) training in accordance with 40 C.F.R f and (3) within the probationary period.
