General Description
Crane Operators report directly to Distribution Supervisor moving material as directed.
Primary Duties
Perform daily inspection of pendulum control unit, wire ropes and other accessory equipment. Immediately report all deficiencies found and unusual noises and/or difficulties in operation of the equipment. Identify material to be placed into production, verifying correct tag and heat numbers. Determine weight of material and utilize crane with the appropriate capacity. Assist and/or direct riggers in properly securing material on crane before moving material. Always be ware of activity/co-workers in the area to ensure the safety of all. Advise all co-workers in the area before movement of material on overhead crane. Follow all company policy procedures and be vigilant in watching for potential risks in the area and notify management of deficiencies identified. Attend all training and safety meetings as directed. Assist with stock checks and physical counts as directed. Perform other tasks as directed. Assist in training co-workers as requested.
Skills
High level of attention to detail. Knowledge of crane capacities, accessory equipment, rigging and ability to move large sized and/or unusually shaped steel plate in a safe manner. Ability to calculate weights of material. Strong verbal communication skills.
Experience
At least 2 years of experience in the field or in a related area. Familiar with safe work practices, and procedures.
