Communications Specialist (Staff Assistant)
Non-Unit Professional position, 37.5 hours/week
Campus Location: Danvers
SALARY: Anticipated salary range $58,000.00 - $66,000.00. Actual salary is commensurate with experience and education. GENERAL STATEMENT OF DUTIES:
The Communications Specialist supports the institution's communication goals by creating, managing, and distributing high-quality content across platforms. Reporting to the Assistant Director of Communications, this role focuses on content creation, written communication, multimedia support, and community outreach, ensuring all messaging aligns with the institution's mission and strategic objectives.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
Content Creation and Management
- Develop high-quality written content for newsletters, websites, marketing materials and digital platforms.
- Integrate external and third-party communications into institutional channels.
Digital and Multimedia Communications
- Create the highest quality of content on the institutional website focused on user experience.
- Build engaging ad copy for print and online outreach
- Proof and edit copy coming out of the college along with internal communications.
- Build scripts for videos, or ads in coordination with larger institutional priorities and active campaigns.
- Support in creation of social and content initiatives and campaigns that align with institutional priorities and growth areas.
- Support content initiatives
- Assist in the outreach and promotion of institutional events, including lectures, conferences, and community programs.
- Analyze digital metrics to assess the effectiveness of communication strategies and make data-driven recommendations for improvement.
Collaboration and Reporting
- Work closely with the Assistant Director of Communications to ensure consistent messaging and strategic alignment.
- Participate in cross-functional teams and contribute to the planning and execution of communication initiatives.
Requirements:
- Bachelor's degree in Communications, Public Relations, Journalism, Marketing, or a related field.
- 3-5 years of professional experience in communications, preferably in higher education or a similar field.
- Excellent writing, editing, and proofreading skills with strong attention to detail.
- Experience in digital communication tools, including social media platforms or content management systems.
- Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with the ability to work collaboratively with diverse groups.
- Ability to manage multiple projects simultaneously and meet deadlines.
- Experience in media relations, journalism, or knowledge of the higher education landscape is a plus.
- Candidates will be required to pass a CORI/SORI and/or National background check as a condition of employment.
