Duties
- Verify patient insurance details by contacting insurance providers and reviewing electronic or paper records
- Confirm coverage eligibility, benefits, and authorization requirements prior to service delivery
- Ensure compliance with HIPAA regulations to protect patient confidentiality at all times
- Utilize medical terminology, CPT (Current Procedural Terminology) codes, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD coding systems to accurately document insurance information
- Collaborate with medical office staff to update and maintain accurate medical records and insurance data
- Communicate effectively with managed care organizations and insurance companies.
- Support the team with additional administrative tasks related to medical office operations; answering phones, taking nurse messages, etc
Skills
- Strong knowledge of managed care policies and procedures
- Prior experience working in a medical or dental office environment is highly preferred
- Familiarity with HIPAA regulations to ensure confidentiality and data security
- Proficiency in CPT coding, ICD-9, ICD-10, and ICD codes is a plus
- Excellent understanding of medical terminology preferred
- Experience with insurance verification processes across various insurance plans
- Office experience that demonstrates organizational skills and attention to detail
- Ability to communicate clearly with insurance providers, patients, and healthcare staff
- Knowledge of medical billing procedures and managed care workflows is a plus
