GENERAL FUNCTION:

Under direct supervision of the Aquatic director, the Lifeguard is responsible for maintaining complete safety in the pool and on the pool deck at all times. The Lifeguard ensures a clean and enjoyable environment for YMCA members and participants. The lifeguard is responsible for walking around the pool, guarding from designated areas, remaining alert at all times, enforcing rules as outlined, recognizing and responding to emergencies.

Qualifications:

• Requires current American Red Cross Lifeguard/CPR/AED certification.
• Effective communicator; written, oral.
• Must be able to work together as a team, and in a collaborative effort.
• Ability to interact with people of all ethnic backgrounds, ages, lifestyles etc.

Responsibilities:

• Keep certifications current & Attend In-Service and trainings as required
• Enforce all rules without deviating from protocol as designed
• Check pool and pool deck for hazardous conditions while investigating in and out
• Investigate all areas of assigned zone in 10 seconds and react to and help people in emergency situations
• Ensure no distraction or interference while guarding
• Keep accurate log book; updated and communicate with supervisor
• Complete incident reports accurately and factually
• Ensure that equipment is safe and in working order
• Swim test youth as needed
• Assist in set up and break down of necessary aquatic equipment and ensure that all equipment is in safe working condition
• Maintain quality service by following organization standards
• Ability to process, understand and respond appropriately to emergency situations
• Keep pool deck clear, enforce pool rules, and patrol and maintain active surveillance of the pool area and pool occupants at all times
• Knows/reviews all emergency procedures and responds to emergency situations immediately in accordance with YMCA policies and procedures.
• Knows, understands, and consistently applies safety rules, policies and guidelines for the pool and aquatic area. Maintains accurate records as required by the YMCA and/or the state Health Department code
• Ensure that all equipment is in safe working order, including daily

Pay: $15.00 - $17.00 per hour
