North Oaks Communities LLC is seeking a CNA-1 (formerly known as GNA) who wants to make a difference in the lives of seniors every day. At our premier retirement community, we offer a home-like environment where we treat everyone with respect and dignity. Hospitality is at the heart of what we do.

The CNA-1 for Residential Health Services assists Residents in Independent Living providing personal care and non-personal care assistance. Assists residents so that independent living can be maintained for as long as appropriate and possible. Promotes independent living activities while giving assistance to a resident.

Compensation: $17.00 per hour. Potential for $1.00 shift differential for hours after 3pm on weekdays and $2.00 shift differential for all shifts on Saturday and Sunday. Sign-on bonus of $600.00 paid over 6 months.

Shift and Schedule: part-time 5pm-9pm several evenings per week, including every other Saturday and Sunday. Other shifts include every other Saturday and Sunday 9am-1pm.

Essential Duties:

1. Takes vital signs as indicated.

2. Changes beds, gives showers or baths and assists with dressing.

3. Assists with escorts to the dining room beauty shop, physical therapy, activities, etc.

4. Makes daily rounds to ill residents.

5. Assists with ongoing assessment of residents’ needs to promote independence.

6. Assists in monitoring medication compliance.

7. Maintains accurate records of observations and services rendered to residents.

8. Keeps supervisor informed of residents’ status.

9. Serves as the receptionist when there is not an assigned resident task.

10. Responds to emergency calls from residents.

11. Observes all safety rules and regulations.

12. HIPAA Compliance – follows written policies and procedures to ensure confidentiality of protected health information.

13. OIG Compliance – follows written policies and procedures to comply with the federal and state laws and regulations.

14. Interacts with residents and coworkers in a friendly and respectful manner.


Other Duties:

1. Attends in-service training and education sessions, as assigned.

2. Performs specific work duties and responsibilities in all areas of North Oaks, including Autumn Ridge, as assigned by supervisor.

Qualifications:

  • Successful completion of a Board-approved nursing assistant competency evaluation, of a Maryland Board-approved nursing assistant training program or acute care nursing assistant training program that meets the curriculum approved by the Board, including passing the Maryland Board-approved nursing assistant competency evaluation.
  • Registration as a CNA-1 with the State of Maryland Board of Nursing registry in good standing.
  • Current CPR certification with a hands-on component.
  • First Aid certification required or ability to complete certification upon hire.
  • Basic computer skills.
  • Prior long term care experience is preferred.
  • Possess a positive and professional attitude.
  • Ability to work well in a team-orientated environment.
  • Ability to remain calm and patient when dealing with residents.
  • Ability to listen attentively is essential.
  • Ability to problem solve and work well under pressure.
  • A willingness to navigate changes in assignments.
  • Ability to show empathy and compassion while interacting with residents.
  • Ability to understand and follow instructions in English, communicate effectively, and perform simple arithmetic. Ability to document care given.
  • Compliance with North Oaks Immunization requirements.

Physical Requirements/Working Conditions: Frequent standing, stooping, bending, stretching, squatting, and walking for up to 90% of the workday. Must be able to reach up to a level of 6 feet. Must be able to push a dietary cart up to 40 lbs. unassisted. Must be able to lift and carry up to 20 lbs. frequently, and 50 lbs. occasionally. Must be able to transport residents via wheelchair, gerichair or shower chair; pushing up to 150lbs., unassisted. Must be able to transfer, lift, turn, and position a resident weighing up to 50 lbs. unassisted or with the assistance of one for a resident weighing over 125 lbs. May be subjected to offensive odors and combative behavior. May be exposed to blood and body fluids which may contain HIV and/or HBV.
