NOTA Dispatcher
Job Summary:
As a NOTA Dispatcher, you will play a crucial role in providing safe and compassionate transportation services to individuals who may require special assistance, including the elderly, disabled, veterans, and low-income individuals. Your primary responsibility is ensuring the well-being and comfort of passengers by dispatching and scheduling drivers, along with performing general office duties.
Key Responsibilities:
- Create and maintain ridership records
- Develop and update multiple, changing routes on a daily basis
- Coordinate and assign drivers to routes
- Monitor timely coverage of all NOTA routes
- Resolve and recommend solutions for incidents, complaints, or accidents
- Ensure timely pick-ups and drop-offs using established routes and designated bus stops
- Efficiently notify drivers of changes in routes or pick-up locations
- Handle a multi-line phone system and receive incoming calls
- Reconcile monies and driver boxes
- Perform all other duties as assigned
- Cross-train as a driver as needed or when the opportunity arises a plus, however, the physical component of the job may change.
Qualifications & Abilities:
- High school diploma required
- Proficient in Microsoft Suite
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Ability to work efficiently in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to multitask in stressful situations
- Effective communication skills with the public
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug test
Physical Requirements:
- Sit for extended periods (up to 6–7 hours/day)
- Regular use of hands for typing, phone, and radio operation
- Communicate clearly in person and over the phone/radio
- Occasionally stand, walk, bend, or reach
- Lift/carry up to 20 lbs occasionally (files, office supplies, boxes)
- Maintain attention and responsiveness during high call volume or stressful periods
