About the Position
Are you organized, dependable, and good at staying calm when things get busy? NOTA is looking for a Part-Time Dispatcher to help keep our transportation service running safely, efficiently, and on schedule.
Dispatchers are an important part of our daily operation. You’ll coordinate with drivers, assist riders, adjust routes, answer calls, and help solve problems as they come up. No two days are exactly the same, making this a great position for someone who enjoys staying busy and working as part of a team.
We are currently looking for someone 5 hours/day Monday-Friday, with flexibility to work the AM or PM shift depending on operational need.
NOTA provides transportation services to seniors, individuals with disabilities, veterans, low-income individuals, and the general public. The work you do helps people in our community get where they need to go.
Key Responsibilities
- Create and maintain ridership records
- Develop and update multiple, changing routes throughout the day
- Coordinate and assign drivers to routes
- Monitor routes to ensure timely coverage of scheduled service
- Communicate route, passenger, and pick-up changes to drivers
- Ensure timely pick-ups and drop-offs using established routes and designated bus stops
- Handle incidents, complaints, and accidents and recommend appropriate solutions
- Operate a multi-line phone system and respond to incoming calls
- Reconcile monies and driver boxes
- Perform general office duties and other duties as assigned
Qualifications & Abilities
- High school diploma or equivalent required
- Proficient in Microsoft Office/Microsoft 365
- Strong interpersonal and customer service skills
- Effective communication skills with passengers, drivers, coworkers, and the public
- Ability to multitask and prioritize in a fast-paced environment
- Ability to remain calm, focused, and make decisions during stressful situations
- Dependable and able to work effectively as part of a team
- Must be able to pass a background check and drug test
Interested in driving? Cross-training as a NOTA driver is a plus and provides an opportunity to learn additional aspects of our operation. The physical requirements may change if you participate in driver cross-training.
Physical Requirements-
This is primarily an office-based position and requires the ability to:
- Sit for extended periods, generally 6–7 hours per day
- Regularly use a computer, telephone, and radio
- Communicate clearly in person, by phone, and over the radio
- Occasionally stand, walk, bend, or reach
- Occasionally lift or carry up to 20 lbs., including files, office supplies, or boxes
- Maintain attention and responsiveness during high call volume and stressful periods
