What are the responsibilities and job description for the Lead Medical Technologist position at North Mississippi Health Services?
Supervision
- Assists supervisor with scheduling, quality control and maintenance programs, work flow organization
- Serves on interview teams
- Assures accurate and efficient transportation of lab-related supplies, equipment and specimens
- Follows all laws and regulations in the processing and transportation of laboratory specimens
- Follows regulatory guidelines in handling/processing of laboratory specimens.
- Follows proper policy for accurate patient identification and labeling of all specimens
- Effectively communicate with all NMHS staff, patients, their family members and customers
- Uses AIDET as applicable
- Attends CARES training.
- When necessary, assures proper service recovery is done for patients and/or caregivers.
- Answers telephone in an polite and efficient manner
- Works as part of a team with all Pathology and NMHS employees
- Assures department testing, applicable to their area, is reported in an accurate and timely manner
- Assists with meeting goals of department Performance Improvement initiatives
- Assures appropriate documentation of all required instrument monthly maintenance and quality control
- Assists with training of students and new employees
- Participates in continuing education programs to maintain and expand skills
- Stays abreast of regulatory changes
- Adheres to NMHS/NMMC Policies/Procedures/Guidelines
- Complies with appropriate Local/State/Federal policies/procedures/guideline/regulations/laws/statues
- Adheres to College of American Pathologist (CAP) & Clinical Laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI) standards
- Bachelor’s Degree in Medical Technology, Clinical Laboratory Science, Biological Science or related field; required
- ASCP Certification as a Medical Laboratory Scientist, required
- Minimum of 2 years laboratory experience as a Medical Laboratory Scientist/Technologist; preferred
- Valid Mississippi Driver’s License and acceptable driving record/history; preferred
- Proficient skills with LIS; required
- Good organizational and communication (written and verbal) skills; required
- Knowledge of and appropriate handling of biohazardous specimens; required
