Varsity Assistant Girls Lacrosse Coach

Position Overview The Varsity Assistant Girls Lacrosse Coach supports the Head Varsity Girls Lacrosse Coach in all aspects of the program. This coach focuses on skill instruction, player development, fostering a positive team culture, and helping student-athletes achieve success both on and off the field. The Assistant Coach works closely with the Head Coach, JV coaches, and athletic department staff to ensure alignment and continuity throughout the program. Key Responsibilities Coaching & Player Development Provide instruction in fundamental and advanced lacrosse skills for all positions (attack, midfield, defense, goalie). Assist in conducting practices that develop technical skills, conditioning, game awareness, and teamwork. Offer individualized feedback to players to support skill improvement, confidence, and competitive performance. Support mental preparation, situational awareness, and sportsmanship development. Practice & Game Support Assist the Head Coach in planning and executing structured, effective practices. Manage positional groups, run drills, and monitor player progress during practice sessions. Support game-day operations including lineups, substitutions, and in-game adjustments. Assist in scouting opponents, analyzing performance, and developing game strategies. Team Culture & Mentorship Promote a positive, inclusive, and accountable team culture. Encourage student-athletes to take on leadership roles and demonstrate responsibility on and off the field. Support academic success, personal growth, and social-emotional development of players. Serve as a role model for professionalism, integrity, and ethical behavior. Program Administration Help manage team communication with athletes, families, and school administration. Assist with equipment, uniforms, and logistical needs for practices and games. Support tryouts, evaluations, and player development plans in collaboration with the Head Coach. Ensure consistent implementation of program philosophy, terminology, and skill progression in alignment with the varsity program. Safety & Compliance Supervise student-athletes to ensure safety during practices, games, and travel. Adhere to all MIAA, NFHS, and North Middlesex School District policies. Maintain current certifications including First Aid, CPR, and concussion training. Reinforce injury prevention techniques, safe practice protocols, and proper equipment usage. Qualifications Required Knowledge of girls lacrosse fundamentals, tactics, and position-specific skills. Ability to communicate effectively with student-athletes, coaches, and parents. Commitment to fostering a positive, educational, and inclusive program environment. Completion of required coaching certifications and successful background checks. Preferred Previous high school or competitive coaching experience. Playing experience at the high school or collegiate level. Familiarity with JV-to-varsity player progression and modern training methodologies. Experience working with diverse student-athlete populations. Work Environment & Schedule Practices typically after school; games may include evenings and weekends. Collaboration with Head Coach, JV coaches, and athletic department staff. Participation in preseason planning, skill clinics, and optional offseason development programs within school and state regulations.
