Position Overview
The Varsity Assistant Boys Lacrosse Coach supports the Head Varsity Boys Lacrosse Coach in all aspects of the program. The assistant coach focuses on skill instruction, player development, and fostering a positive team culture. This role helps ensure student-athletes are prepared for competition, maintain academic and behavioral expectations, and develop both on and off the field.
Key Responsibilities
Coaching & Player Development
Provide individual and group instruction for all positions (attack, midfield, defense, goalie).
Reinforce fundamentals, advanced techniques, and team strategies during practices and games.
Work with athletes on mental preparation, situational decision-making, and sportsmanship.
Offer constructive feedback to enhance player performance and growth.
Practice & Game Support
Assist the Head Coach in planning and executing practice sessions.
Manage drills, positional groups, and station rotations.
Support in-game management including substitutions, line changes, and strategy adjustments.
Participate in pre-game preparation and post-game evaluations.
Team Culture & Mentorship
Promote a positive, inclusive, and disciplined team culture consistent with program values.
Encourage leadership, accountability, and academic excellence among athletes.
Serve as a role model for integrity, sportsmanship, and respectful behavior.
Program Administration
Help maintain equipment, uniforms, and practice/game setups.
Assist with team communications, scheduling, and coordination with athletic department staff.
Support the Head Coach in tryouts, player evaluations, and player progression plans.
Safety & Compliance
Ensure the safety of all athletes during practices, games, and travel.
Adhere to all MIAA, NFHS, and district policies.
Maintain required certifications such as First Aid, CPR, and Concussion Training.
Qualifications
Required
Knowledge of boys lacrosse fundamentals, strategies, and training techniques.
Ability to work collaboratively with student-athletes, coaches, and school staff.
Strong communication, leadership, and organizational skills.
Completion of required coaching certifications and background checks.
Preferred
Previous high school or collegiate coaching experience.
Playing experience at the high school or collegiate level.
Familiarity with film analysis, performance tracking, and modern training methodologies.
Work Environment & Schedule
Practices after school; games may include evenings and weekends.
Collaboration with Head Coach, JV coaches, and athletic department staff.
Participation in offseason training programs and skill clinics as permitted.
Salary : $1,208 - $1,434
