Varsity Assistant Boys Ice Hockey Coach

Job Title: Assistant Varsity Ice Hockey Coach School: North Middlesex Regional High School Location: 19 Main St, Townsend, MA 01469 Job Description: North Middlesex Regional High School is seeking a dedicated and knowledgeable Assistant Varsity Ice Hockey Coach to support the varsity ice hockey program. The assistant coach will work closely with the head coach to help develop student-athletes, implement team systems, and foster a positive and competitive team culture rooted in education-based athletics. The ideal candidate will demonstrate strong communication skills, a commitment to player development, and the ability to build positive relationships with student-athletes while promoting teamwork, accountability, sportsmanship, and academic balance. Key Responsibilities: Coaching & Player Development: Assist in planning and conducting practices focused on skill development, conditioning, systems, and team play. Provide instruction and feedback to athletes in areas such as skating, puck skills, positioning, hockey IQ, and game strategy. Support the development of student-athletes both on and off the ice. Help create a positive and challenging environment that promotes growth and accountability. Game Preparation & Management: Assist with game preparation, warm-ups, scouting, and bench management during contests. Support in-game adjustments and communication with players. Help ensure athletes are mentally and physically prepared for competition. Model professionalism and sportsmanship during all athletic events. Team Culture & Leadership: Promote teamwork, discipline, leadership, and respect within the program. Build positive relationships with student-athletes and serve as a role model. Reinforce expectations surrounding effort, sportsmanship, attendance, and academics. Support the overall vision and philosophy of the North Middlesex ice hockey program. Communication & Collaboration: Work collaboratively with the head coach and other program staff to maintain consistency across all levels of the program. Communicate effectively with athletes, families, athletic department staff, and school administration when appropriate. Collaborate with athletic trainers and school staff to support athlete health and performance. Safety & Compliance: Prioritize player safety and reinforce proper techniques and use of protective equipment. Follow concussion management and injury prevention protocols. Ensure compliance with all MIAA, NFHS, league, and North Middlesex policies and eligibility requirements. Qualifications: Required Qualifications: Previous coaching and/or playing experience in ice hockey. Strong understanding of hockey fundamentals, systems, and rules. Ability to positively mentor and motivate student-athletes. Strong communication, teamwork, and organizational skills. Must meet all district, NFHS, and MIAA coaching requirements, including: NFHS Fundamentals of Coaching NFHS Concussion in Sports First Aid & CPR Certification MIAA Coaching Education Program CORI/SORI Background Check Preferred Qualifications: Previous coaching experience at the high school or youth hockey level. Collegiate or high-level playing experience. Experience supporting athlete development within a team-focused environment. Commitment to education-based athletics and creating a positive student-athlete experience.
